Terrestrial very-long-baseline atom interferometry: Workshop summary [PDF]

open access: yesAVS Quantum Science
This document presents a summary of the 2023 Terrestrial Very-Long-Baseline Atom Interferometry Workshop hosted by CERN. The workshop brought together experts from around the world to discuss the exciting developments in large-scale atom interferometer (AI) prototypes and their potential for detecting ultralight dark matter and gravitational waves. The

Evaluation of VLBI Observations with Sensitivity and Robustness Analyses

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) plays an indispensable role in the realization of global terrestrial and celestial reference frames and in the determination of the full set of the Earth Orientation Parameters (EOP).

A coherent fiber link for very long baseline interferometry [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 2015
We realize a coherent fiber link for application in very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) for radio astronomy and geodesy. A 550-km optical fiber connects the Italian National Metrological Institute (INRIM) to a radio telescope in Italy and is used for the primary Cs fountain clock stability and accuracy dissemination.

Space very long baseline interferometry in China [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Space Research, 2020
Space very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) has unique applications in high-resolution imaging of fine structure of astronomical objects and high-precision astrometry due to the key long space-Earth or space-space baselines beyond the Earth's diameter. China has been actively involved in the development of space VLBI in recent years.

Super-Resolved Image of M87 Observed with East Asian VLBI Network

open access: yesGalaxies, 2023
Obtaining high-resolution images at centimeter-or-longer wavelengths is vital for understanding the physics of jets. We reconstructed images from the M87 22 GHz data observed with the East Asian VLBI Network (EAVN) by using the regularized maximum ...

Deep, ultra-high-resolution radio imaging of submillimetre galaxies using Very Long Baseline Interferometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present continent-scale VLBI - obtained with the European VLBI Network (EVN) at a wavelength of 18cm - of six distant, luminous submm-selected galaxies (SMGs).

Modeling Atmospheric Phase Corruptions in High-frequency Very-long-baseline Interferometry Using Gaussian Processes

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Using very-long-baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations at (sub)millimeter wavelengths, the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) currently achieves the finest angular resolution of any astronomical facility, necessary for imaging the horizon-scale structure

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Gravitational Radiation and Very Long Baseline Interferometry [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1996
Gravitational waves affect the observed direction of light from distant sources. At telescopes, this change in direction appears as periodic variations in the apparent positions of these sources on the sky; that is, as proper motion. A wave of a given phase, traveling in a given direction, produces a characteristic pattern of proper motions over the ...

Interactions between the Jet and Disk Wind in Nearby Radio-intermediate Quasar III Zw 2

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Disk winds and jets are ubiquitous in active galactic nuclei (AGN), and how these two components interact remains an open question. We study the radio properties of the radio-intermediate quasar III Zw 2.
