Investigation of the Very High Cycle Fatigue (VHCF) Behavior of Austenitic Stainless Steels and Their Welds for Reactor Internals at Ambient Temperature and 300°C

Volume 1: Codes and Standards, 2020
Abstract The fatigue assessment of safety relevant components is of importance for ageing management with regard to safety and reliability of nuclear power plants. For reactor internals, austenitic stainless steels are often used due to their excellent mechanical and technological properties as well as their corrosion ...

Correlation between micro-mechanical property and very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) crack initiation in friction stir welds of 7050 aluminum alloy

International Journal of Fatigue, 2017
Abstract The S–N curves at very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime for the base material and the friction stir welding (FSW) joint of 7050 aluminum alloy present multi-stage shapes with an inflection point at about 108 cycles in the study. In the regime between 1 × 106 and 5 × 107, the fatigue crack initiates at the thermo-mechanically affected zone ...

Investigation of the Fatigue Behavior of Austenitic Stainless Steels and Their Welds for Reactor Internals Under Combined Low Cycle (LCF), High Cycle (HCF) and Very High Cycle (VHCF) Operational Loading Conditions

Volume 6B: Materials and Fabrication, 2018
The fatigue assessment of safety relevant components is of importance for ageing management with regard to safety and reliability of nuclear power plants. Reactor internals are subjected to thermo-mechanical fatigue induced by operational temperature transients and to flow induced vibrations.

Ultrasonic Very High Cycle Fatigue (VHCF) tests on a cyanoacrylate and on a high strength epoxy adhesive

2018
In the present work, the VHCF response (at 10^9 cycles) of a cyanoacrylate adhesive and of an Araldite 2011 epoxy adhesive were experimentally assessed. Fully reversed tension-compression tests (stress ratio R=-1) at ultrasonic frequencies (loading frequency of 20 kHz) were carried out by using a testing equipment developed at the Politecnico di Torino.
