Metabolic origins and clinical significance of LDL heterogeneity

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2002
LDLs in humans comprise multiple distinct subspecies that differ in their metabolic behavior and pathologic roles. Metabolic turnover studies suggest that this heterogeneity results from multiple pathways, including catabolism of different VLDL and IDL ...

Oxysterols in Vascular Cells and Role in Atherosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yesImplication of Oxysterols and Phytosterols in Aging and Human Diseases, 1440, Springer International Publishing, pp.213-229, 2024, Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology
Atherosclerosis is a major cardiovascular complication of diseases associated with elevated oxidative stress such as type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. In these situations, low density lipoproteins (LDL) undergo oxidation. Oxidized LDL display proatherogenic activities through multiple and complex mechanisms which lead to dysfunctions of vascular ...

Metabolism of Very-Low-Density Lipoprotein and Low-Density Lipoprotein Containing Apolipoprotein C-III and Not Other Small Apolipoproteins

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, 2010
Objective—We aimed to clarify the influence of apolipoprotein C-III (apoCIII) on human apolipoprotein B metabolism. Methods and Results—We studied the kinetics of 4 very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), and low ...

Time‐Controlled Dual Targeting to Program Systemic and Intercellular Transfer of Therapeutic Effects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Aspirin‐liposomes loaded onto monocytes enable inflammation‐triggered targeting and efficient hand‐over of aspirin to inflamed cells. Monocytes uptake a significant portion of aspirin‐liposomes, prolonging therapeutic action. This approach enhances anti‐inflammatory effects through intercellular transfer, demonstrating a translational strategy for ...

"EFFECT OF PROGESTERONE AND LOVASTATIN ON THE SECRETION OF VERY LOW DENSITY LIPOPROTEIN 1 AND 2 IN THE NORMAL GUINEA PIG MODEL" [PDF]

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2004
Liver secretes a large range of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles of different sizes and Svedberg flotation rates (Sf). In plasma VLDL is converted to low density lipoprotein (LDL)which in turn plays an important role in the development of ...

Apolipoprotein A-I, A-II, and VLDL-B-100 metabolism in men

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2004
The impact of a low-fat diet and a high-MUFA diet on apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I), apoA-II, and VLDL-apoB-100 metabolism in conditions of unrestricted (ad libitum) energy intake was compared in 65 men randomly assigned to one of two predefined ...

“Therapies Through Gut:” Targeted Drug Delivery for Non‐Gastrointestinal Diseases by Oral Administration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the mechanism of targeted delivery of nanoparticles including 1) paracellular, 2) endolysosomal escape, 3) receptor mediated endocytosis, and 4) M cell mediated transport for non‐GI diseases by oral administration such as atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes, and brain diseases. Abstract Oral drug delivery is a promising approach

Digitonin‐Loaded Nanoscale Metal–Organic Framework for Mitochondria‐Targeted Radiotherapy‐Radiodynamic Therapy and Disulfidptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A mitochondria‐targeted cationic nanoscale metal organic framework shows strong radiotherapy‐radiodynamic therapy effects and selectively releases digitonin in acidic tumor microenvironments to induce disulfidptosis of cancer cells and downregulate immune checkpoints in cancer and T cells, thereby eliciting strong antitumor immunity to effectively ...

Thematic review series: Patient-Oriented Research. What we have learned about VLDL and LDL metabolism from human kinetics studies

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
Lipoprotein metabolism is the result of a complex network of many individual components. Abnormal lipoprotein concentrations can result from changes in the production, conversion, or catabolism of lipoprotein particles. Studies in hypolipoproteinemia and

A Dynamical Model of Lipoprotein Metabolism [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We present a dynamical model of lipoprotein metabolism derived by combining a cascading process in the blood stream and cellular level regulatory dynamics. We analyse the existence and stability of equilibria and show that this low-dimensional, nonlinear model exhibits bistability between a low and a high cholesterol state.
