Synaptic-vesicle fusion: a need for speed
Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, 2015Two new studies reveal mechanistic insights into how neurons control the assembly of SNARE complexes and the rapid fusion of synaptic vesicles. Structural, biophysical and functional experiments are combined to elucidate the roles of two critical regulators: Munc13 and synaptotagmin.

Pressure as a Probe of Vesicle Fusion
1987Fusion between two lipid membranes is superficially easy to understand: Two lipid bilayers come into contact and meld into one seamless membrane. But even at this basic level, one must distinguish whether fusion simply means the merging of the two membranes or whether the internal contents (of the liposomes or vesicles) must also mix.
