Vestibular function after vestibular neuritis
International Journal of Audiology, 2013To measure horizontal semicircular canal function over days, weeks, and months after an acute attack of vestibular neuritis. The video head impulse test (vHIT) was used to measure the eye movement response to small unpredictable passive head turns at intervals after the attack. Two patients diagnosed with acute right unilateral vestibular neuritis. There ...

Evaluation of Vestibular Function in Diagnosis of Vestibular Schwannomas
Current Medical Science, 2021Vestibular schwannomas (VS) are benign tumors of the vestibular nerve. The common first symptoms are hearing loss and tinnitus, followed by imbalance, vertigo, and facial nerve involvement. The subjective symptoms of VS patients are not consistent with the severity of vestibular lesions and the results of vestibular tests, which often interfere with ...

Vestibular function and vasopressin
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2004To investigate the relation between the vestibular system and vasopressin (AVP).We examined the effects of electrical and caloric vestibular stimulation on plasma AVP levels in anesthetized rats. Plasma AVP levels of patients with intractable Ménière's disease who were subjected to endolymphatic drainage and steroid instillation surgery (EDSS) or ...

Vestibular Function in Migraine
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, 1981SYNOPSIS In order to evaluate vestibular function in migraine, electronystagmography (ENG) was used. Twenty migrainous patients in the headache free phase and free of drugs for at least one week prior to study, were studied. The ENG examination included spontaneous eye movements, bithermal caloric tests and rotatory tests.

Current Opinion in Neurology, 2007
This review provides an overview of vestibular function testing and highlights the new techniques that have emerged during the past 5 years.Since the introduction of video-oculography as an alternative to electro-oculography for the assessment of vestibular-induced eye movements, the investigation of the utricle has become a part of vestibular function

Recovery of the Vestibular Function after Vestibular Neuronitis
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1993We performed steroid therapy on 34 cases with vestibular neuronitis and compared them with 77 patients not subjected to this therapy to examine the role of recovery of their vestibular function. Since no relation was noted between use of steroid and changes in subjective symptom of dizziness, the use of steroid is likely to facilitate the disappearance

Vestibular Function in Patients with a Large Vestibular Aqueduct
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1995Four patients (7 ears) with a large vestibular aqueduct (VA) were examined for history of vertigo and vestibular function. Vertigo was observed in all the 4 patients. The caloric responses were significantly poorer in ears with a large VA than in the controls.

Dyscalculia and vestibular function
Medical Hypotheses, 2012A few studies in humans suggest that changes in stimulation of the balance organs of the inner ear (the 'vestibular system') can disrupt numerical cognition, resulting in 'dyscalculia', the inability to manipulate numbers. Many studies have also demonstrated that patients with vestibular dysfunction exhibit deficits in spatial memory. It is suggested ...

Vestibular Function in the Fetal Sheep
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1998Little is known about the functional development of the vestibular system before birth. The purpose of this study was to determine whether vestibular response to caloric stimulation could be elicited in the fetal sheep in utero. Late gestational fetal sheep (n = 6) were instrumented through a midline hysterotomy.
