Evidence that vestibular hypofunction affects reading acuity in children
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 2006Despite reported gaze stability deficits in children with hearing impairment and concurrent vestibular hypofunction, the reading difficulties reported in this population have not been linked to the gaze instability. The purpose of this study was to develop a modified version of the MNREAD chart that enabled responses orally or using sign language ...

Current Opinion in Neurology, 2000
Since the initial introduction of exercises as a treatment for patients with vestibular deficits, there have been numerous clinical reports on the benefits of treatment. Clinical reports, however, are of limited use as a basis for treatment because, without a control group, they offer only interesting descriptions of the patient populations ...

A Smartphone-based Balance Assessment System for Vestibular Hypofunction
International Conference on Applied System InnovationPatients with vestibular hypofunction may experience dizziness and balance deficiency. The influences increase the incidence of falls and reduce the quality of life, which emphasizes the importance of balance evaluation.

Nonlinearity of the Jongkees Difference Equation for Vestibular Hypofunction
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1994The Jongkees formulation for vestibular paresis normalizes the difference between total left and right caloric responses to the sum of responses. When studied over the full paresis range of 0% to 100% hypofunction, the Jongkees formula is found to be a nonlinear index that does not accurately indicate the percentage of vestibular paresis.
