Towards an Implantable Vestibular Prosthesis: The Surgical Challenges [PDF]
Restoring the sensation of inertia in individuals with balance-related impairments is achievable through development of an artificial vestibular prosthesis, based on the cochlear implant paradigm. The vestibular system, however, involves added complexity in surgical methods required for reliable implantation, thus limiting widespread feasibility.

Electrical Stimulation to Restore Vestibular Function Development of a 3-D Vestibular Prosthesis [PDF]
Patients who fail to compensate for bilateral loss of vestibular sensory function are disabled by disequilibrium and illusory movement of the visual field during head movement. An implantable prosthesis that restores vestibular sensation could significantly improve quality of life for these patients.

Perilymphatic gusher in osteogenesis imperfecta
Perilymphatic gusher is a rare event during stapes surgery that can have dramatic consequences on hearing outcomes. While gusher has been reported in X-linked deafness and otosclerosis, this is the first report of perilymphatic gusher during stapedotomy ...

The Vestibular Implant Input Interacts with Residual Natural Function
ObjectivePatients with bilateral vestibulopathy (BV) can still have residual “natural” function. This might interact with “artificial” vestibular implant input (VI-input). When fluctuating, it could lead to vertigo attacks.
