BASIC CONCEPTS IN UNDERSTANDING RECOVERY OF FUNCTION IN VESTIBULAR REFLEX NETWORKS DURING VESTIBULAR COMPENSATION

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2012
Unilateral peripheral vestibular lesions produce a syndrome of oculomotor and postural deficits with the symptoms at rest, the static symptoms, partially or completely normalizing shortly after the lesion due to a process known as vestibular compensation.

Feedforward Pre‐Activation of Lateral Ankle Muscles Is Insufficient Against Excessive Ankle Inversion During Perturbation in Individuals With Chronic Ankle Instability

open access: yesJournal of Foot and Ankle Research, Volume 19, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to compare ankle kinematics and muscle activation between individuals with and without chronic ankle instability (CAI), both prior to and following landing on an inversion trapdoor during walking, with a particular focus on the feedforward pre‐activation of lateral ankle muscles and the consequent ankle kinematics ...

Short Term Effects of Football Headers on Reaction Time and Symptomology in Males and Females

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Football heading is a form of repetitive head impact linked to cognitive decline. Although the English Football‐Association have implemented heading restrictions, evidence guiding sex‐specific protocols remains limited. This study explored the acute effects of a standardized heading drill on reaction time (RT) and concussion ...

Beyond the Larynx: New Insights Into Upper Airway Responses to Mechanical Insufflation–Exsufflation

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2026.
Upper airway responses to mechanical insufflation–exsufflation extend beyond the larynx and are strongly influenced by device settings and cervical posture. Transnasal flexible laryngoscopy and videofluoroscopy revealed that lower inspiratory flow and shorter expiratory time preserved airway patency and minimized oesophageal insufflation in bulbar ALS.

The relationship between motor proficiency, bilateral vestibular hypofunction and dynamic visual acuity in children with congenital or early acquired sensorineural hearing loss [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 105-115).The functional integrity of the vestibular system in children is not often tested. Due to the close relationship between the cochlea and the peripheral vestibular system, the function of the vestibular

Contribution of supraspinal systems to generation of automatic postural responses

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2014
Different species maintain a particular body orientation in space due to activity of the closed-loop postural control system. In this review we discuss the role of neurons of descending pathways in operation of this system as revealed in animal models of

Pitfalls in diagnosing and long‐term management of ceroid lipofuscinosis NCL4A in a mixed‐breed dog

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, November 2026.
Abstract An 8‐year‐old, spayed, female, mixed‐breed dog was presented with a 9‐month history of occasionally stumbling on walks, having difficulty navigating stairs and jumping into the car. A prior computed tomography scan of the head revealed mild leptomeningeal enhancement and suggested meningoencephalitis.

Head and trunk movement strategies in quiet stance : from the deficit of vestibular loss to the expertise of tightrope walkers via prosthetic feedback [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Is the head more locked to the trunk or stabilised in space during quite stance? Does prosthetic vestibular feedback have a positive impact on movement strategies and muscle synergies of those with vestibular loss?

A New and Faster Test to Assess Vestibular Perception

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2019
Objective: Clinical vestibular testing mainly consists of testing reflexes, but does not routinely include testing for perceptual symptoms. The objective of this study was to investigate a new and faster test for vestibular perception, and to compare its
