Structural elucidation of hemicelluloses from Vetiver grass

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2004
Structure of the hemicelluloses extracted from Vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides Nash) leaves was studied. The monosaccharide compositions and the position of the linkages between monosaccharides in the hemicelluloses were defined by TFA hydrolysis and methylation analysis, respectively.

High uptake of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene by vetiver grass – Potential for phytoremediation?

Environmental Pollution, 2007
2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene (TNT) is a potent mutagen, and a Group C human carcinogen that has been widely used to produce munitions and explosives. Vast areas that have been previously used as ranges, munition burning, and open detonation sites are heavily contaminated with TNT. Conventional remediation activities in such sites are expensive and damaging to

Hemicellulosic polymer from Vetiver grass and its physicochemical properties

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2003
Abstract Chemical composition of two ecotypes of the Vetiver grass ( Vetiveria zizanioides nash ) leaves has been investigated using the gravimetric method. The principal polysaccharides found in samples were hemicelluloses (ca. 38%), followed by cellulose (ca. 27%).

Crystallization Behavior of Vetiver Grass Fiber-Polylactic Acid Composite

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
this work, vetiver fiber was used as a filler for poly (lactic acid) (PLA). The thermal properties of neat PLA and vetiver fiber-PLA composites were investigated. Talc as a nucleating agent was used to compare the nucleating effect on crystallization of the composites from vetiver fiber. It was found that crystallization rate was highest in the case of

Micropropagation of Vetiver Grass - A Review

Plants and plant materials have long been employed in traditional herbal remedies. In recent decades, natural resource demand has surged by 8–15% each year in Asia, North America, and Europe. Vetiver is a plant that produces essential oils and is widely used in perfumery, cosmetics, and herbal medicine. The utilisation of controlled conditions can help

Kinetic study of vetiver grass powder filled polypropylene composites

Thermochimica Acta, 2009
Abstract Polypropylene composites containing vetiver grass powder as filler are used in Thailand in many applications, i.e. household articles, furniture and office appliances. A widely used method of disposal of these composites after use is through pyrolysis in incinerators, gasification plants, or combustion systems.

PHYTOREMEDIATION POTENTIAL OF VETIVER GRASS [ CHRYSOPOGON ZIZANIOIDES (L.) ] FOR TETRACYCLINE

International Journal of Phytoremediation, 2012
The presence of veterinary and human antibiotics in soil and surface water is an emerging environmental concern. The current study was aimed at evaluating the potential of using vetiver grass as a phytoremediation agent in removing Tetracycline (TC) from aqueous media.

Induction of Lead‐Binding Phytochelatins in Vetiver Grass [Vetiveria zizanioides (L.)]

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2009
Elevated lead (Pb) concentrations in residential houseyards around house walls painted with Pb‐based pigments pose serious human health risks, especially to children. Vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides L.) has shown promise for use in in situ Pb phytoremediation efforts.
