ON ACTIVE SYNCHROPHASING CONTROL OF VIBRATION FOR A FLOATING RAFT VIBRATION ISOLATION SYSTEM

open access: yes, 2015
A floating raft vibration isolation system installed on a flexible hull-like structure is described in this paper. Four vibration exciters, in which two counter rotating shafts with the same balanced masses are driven by a phase asynchronous motor, are ...

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Pacinian channel mediated vasoconstriction in the fingers during vibration exposure

open access: yes, 2013
A review of the literature showed that acute vascular responses to hand-transmitted vibration depend on the magnitude, the frequency, and the duration of the vibration but the mechanisms involved in the immediate vasoconstriction on exposure to vibration

Controlling vibration propagation in a thin beam using a neutraliser

open access: yes
This paper is concerned with the control of vibration transmission along a thin beam using a vibration neutraliser. The analysis focuses on the case where the position of the neutraliser is constrained such that it cannot be at the source or the receiver,

Active Vibration Control for a CNC Milling Machine

open access: yes, 2013
There is a requirement for improved three-dimensional surface characterisation and reduced tool wear when modern computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools are operating at high cutting velocities, spindle speeds and feed rates.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Risks of occupational exposures to hand-transmitted vibration: VIBRISKS

open access: yes, 2006
VIBRISKS seeks to improve understanding of the risk of injury from hand-transmitted vibration and whole-body vibration by means of epidemiological studies supported by fundamental laboratory research.

Machines’ Intelligent Fault Diagnosis Based on Hierarchical Refined Composite Generalized Multiscale Fluctuation Dispersion Entropy

open access: yesShock and Vibration
Vibration data from mechanical equipment contain extensive information distributed across multiple dimensions. Single-scale analysis fails to comprehensively reflect its damage characteristics, thereby reducing fault diagnosis accuracy.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.
