A 73‐Year‐Old Man With Several Years of Difficulty Climbing Stairs and Frequent Tripping

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 73‐year‐old man presented with progressive weakness and atrophy predominantly affecting the distal finger flexors and quadriceps muscles. Electrophysiological studies demonstrated mixed myogenic and neurogenic features. Muscle MRI showed inflammatory changes, and muscle biopsy revealed granulomatous myositis with histologic features ...

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

The transmissibility of vibration isolators with a nonlinear anti-symmetric damping characteristic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In the present study, the concept of the Output Frequency Response Function (OFRF), recently proposed by the authors, is applied to theoretically investigate the transmissibility of SDOF passive vibration isolators with a nonlinear anti-symmetric damping

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

Improving the torque generation in self-sensing BLDC drives by shaping the current waveform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Brushless DC drives are widely used in different fields of application because of their high efficiency and power density. Torque ripple can be considered one of the drawbacks of these drives.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...
