Vibrations: Their Signal Function for a Spider Kleptoparasite

Science, 1979
The stealing behavior of Argyrodes elevatus suggests that this kleptoparasitic spider monitors the movements and the hunting success of its web-building host. Wrapping of prey by the host regularly elicits raids from the kleptoparasite.

Signal analysis for rotating machinery vibrations

Pattern Recognition, 1975
Abstract A novel method is proposed for the purpose of characterizing repetitive vibration signals. This consists in decomposing the signal into periodic—not necessarily harmonic—components. Two parameters are then sufficient for the description of each component. The appropriate signal processing technique is based on time domain averaging.

Good Vibrations. Focus on “Texture Signals in Whisker Vibrations”

Journal of Neurophysiology, 2006
Roughly 20 years ago Valentino Braitenberg published a book on vehicles—a treatment of the amazingly complex behavior of a variety of very simple machines ([Braitenberg 1984][1]). This approach was inspired by the “law of uphill analysis and downhill invention.” Accordingly it is easier ...

Vibrator Harmonics - Noise or Signal?

Proceedings, 2015
Seismic vibrators generate the desired (fundamental) signal and its harmonics. After standard correlation processing using the pilot sweep, harmonics appear as a form of coherent noise preceding each seismic waveform. The harmonics might alternatively be treated as supplementary signal energy by replacing the correlation with source-signature ...

Some alternate vibrator signals

Geophysics, 1979
Abstract The linear swept-frequency sine wave has been the only seismic vibrator drive signal seriously used in almost two decades of operational vibrator activity. However, there are other drive signals and alterations of this commonly accepted signal which offer improved peak-to-side lobe ratios on signal autocorrelations, as well ...

Analysis of acoustic and vibration signals

1991
In previous chapters we have seen how sound waves propagate as small pressure disturbances in a gas or liquid, or as changes in stress in a solid. Before we can study sound waves we need to be able to measure them. This is achieved by using a sensor (such as a microphone) which converts the pressure or stress change to an electrical form.

Signal added vibration transducer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1990
A transducer for measuring vibrations is formed of a case with a vibratory element mounted therein by means of a disk spring which is constrained to vibrate with the vibratory element in a single direction. Optical or magnetic sensors are located in registration with opposed ends of the vibratory element to produce optically or magnetically induced ...

Vibration Signal Analysis For Rail Flaw Detection

2019 CAA Symposium on Fault Detection, Supervision and Safety for Technical Processes (SAFEPROCESS), 2019
Rails are the foundation of rail transport, and any defects of the rails may directly affect the running state of the train or even lead to major safety incidents. However, the existing algorithms for rail crack detection are too expensive and difficult to perform on-line real-time monitoring.
