Superconductive pumping of nanomechanical vibrations

open access: yes, 2008
We demonstrate that a supercurrent can pump energy from a battery that provides a voltage bias into nanomechanical vibrations. Using a device containing a nanowire Josephson weak link as an example we show that a nonlinear coupling between the ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Approximate Analytical Methodology for the Restricted Three-Body and Four-Body Models Based on Polynomial Series

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2016
The restricted three-body problem (R3BP) and restricted four-body problem (R4BP) are modeled based on the rotating frame. The conservative autonomous system for the R3BP and nonautonomous system with period parametric resonance due to the fourth body are

Elastic Wave Properties of an Adaptive Electromechanical Metamaterial Beam

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2020
An adaptive metamaterial beam with a couple of electromechanical resonators in each unit cell is proposed in this study to open Bragg bandgap or locally resonant bandgap for flexural wave attenuation in Euler–Bernoulli beams.

Collisional Damping of Giant Monopole and Quadrupole Resonances

open access: yes, 2001
Collisional damping widths of giant monopole and quadrupole excitations for $^{120}$Sn and $^{208}$Pb at zero and finite temperatures are calculated within Thomas-Fermi approximation by employing the microscopic in-medium cross-sections of Li and ...

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Nonlinear Dynamics of the High-Speed Rotating Plate

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2018
High speed rotating blades are crucial components of modern large aircraft engines. The rotating blades under working condition frequently suffer from the aerodynamic, elastic and inertia loads, which may lead to large amplitude nonlinear oscillations ...

Shock-Induced Vibration of Composite Truss Core Sandwich Plates with Distributed Nonlinear Absorbers by Optimal Locations

open access: yesActuators, 2022
In order to solve the problems of limited installation space and strict additional quality, the effects of internal distributed nonlinear energy sinks (NES) considering optimal locations on a composite truss core sandwich plate are investigated in this ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Initial Parameter Analysis about Resonant Orbits in Earth-Moon System

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, 2019
The initial parameters about resonant orbits in the Earth-Moon system were investigated in this study. Resonant orbits with different ratios are obtained in the two-body problem and planar circular restricted three-body problem (i.e., PCRTBP).
