Vibro-impact attachments as shock absorbers [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2008
The use of vibro-impact (VI) attachments as shock absorbers is studied. By considering different configurations of primary linear oscillators with VI attachments, the capacity of these attachments to passively absorb and dissipate significant portions of shock energy applied to the primary systems is investigated.

A Dielectric Elastomer Actuator-Driven Vibro-Impact Crawling Robot. [PDF]

open access: yesMicromachines (Basel), 2022
Over the last decade, many bio-inspired crawling robots have been proposed by adopting the principle of two-anchor crawling or anisotropic friction-based vibrational crawling.

Magnetic Bistability for a Wider Bandwidth in Vibro-Impact Triboelectric Energy Harvesters. [PDF]

open access: yesMicromachines (Basel), 2023
Mechanical energy from vibrations is widespread in the ambient environment. It may be harvested efficiently using triboelectric generators. Nevertheless, a harvester’s effectiveness is restricted because of the limited bandwidth.

Numerical Analysis of Dynamic Effects of a Nonlinear Vibro-Impact Process for Enhancing the Reliability of Contact-Type MEMS Devices. [PDF]

open access: yesSensors (Basel), 2009
This paper reports on numerical modeling and simulation of a generalized contact-type MEMS device having large potential in various micro-sensor/actuator applications, which are currently limited because of detrimental effects of the contact bounce ...

Modelling of a vibro-impact capsule system [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2013
The model of a vibro-impact capsule system is studied in this paper to provide a fundamental understanding of its dynamics for potential medical and engineering applications. The system consists of a capsule having a main body which interacts with an internal mass driven by a harmonic excitation.

Nonlinear Dynamics of Vibro-Impacting Indenter

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
We investigated a vibro-impacting indenter interacting with strata in the form of metal or rock samples experimentally and via mathematical modelling. An experimental programme was undertaken on the custom-designed rig at the Centre for Applied Dynamics of the University of Aberdeen.

Stochastic Dynamics of Nonlinear Piezoelectric Vibration Energy Harvesting System with Inelastic Impact. [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy (Basel)
Because the introduction of a vibro-impact structure can widen the bandwidth and improve the harvesting efficiency of the vibration energy harvesting (VEH) systems, an analytical method for a VEH system based on vibro-impact is proposed to employ the ...

Vibro-Impact Response of a Cracked Bar [PDF]

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2011
The presence of a crack in a structure affects its dynamic behaviour under working conditions. Cracks introduce nonlinearities into the system; the use of such nonlinearities for damage detection should be investigated. A model of a one-dimensional cracked cantilever bar subjected to longitudinal harmonic excitation is used to analyse a vibro-impact ...

Newton iterative integration method and global dynamics of vibro-impact system

open access: yesXi'an Gongcheng Daxue xuebao, 2021
Given the discontinuous structure of vibro-impact system, Newton iteration was used to establish an effective numerical integration strategy, and this numerical integration strategy was applied to the cell mapping algorithm.

Chaotic motion of vibro-impact system based on Galerkin-Ivanov transformation

open access: yesXi'an Gongcheng Daxue xuebao, 2021
Based on the Galerkin-Ivanov transformation, the chaotic motion of a vibro-impact system was investigated. For a general vibro-impact system with one-side rigid, the equivalent smooth system with symmetric structure was obtained by Galerkin-Ivanov ...
