Preharvest supplemental lighting enhances productivity and modulates postharvest quality in hydroponically grown Apulian unripe melon ‘Scopatizzo’ (Cucumis melo L.)

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Preharvest light management is increasingly used to enhance yield and fruit quality in soilless systems, yet its effects on unripe melon fruits remain poorly understood. This study evaluated the impact of supplemental red–blue light‐emitting diode (LED) lighting applied during cultivation in a closed‐cycle hydroponic system on ...

A Comparative Study of Directed Energy Deposition‐Arc and Casting: Enhancing Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Hot‐Work Tool Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The study investigates the influence of DED‐Arc/M versus casting on the microstructure and material properties of X40CrMoV5‐1 (AISI H13) hot‐work tool steel. DED‐Arc/M yields finer microstructures, superior mechanical strength, and ductility, but slightly reduced thermal conductivity.

Effect of the additive concentration on the modification of petroleum coke and anode quality

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 6, Page 2980-2987, June 2026.
Abstract Calcined petroleum coke is one of the major raw materials for anode manufacturing, which is used as the carbon source in electrolytic cells for primary aluminium production. It constitutes around 65%–70% of the anode recipe. Therefore, the quality of calcined coke has an important impact on anode quality, which affects the cost, energy ...

Theoretical Design and Experimental Validation of a Vibro-Impact Support for Vibration Suppression

open access: yesMachines
To mitigate the high contact forces and noise inherent in traditional hard-impact dampers, this work evaluates the efficacy of a soft viscoelastic vibro-impact interface for passive vibration suppression.

Global Dynamics of a Vibro-Impact Energy Harvester

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
In this paper, we consider a two-sided vibro-impact energy harvester described as a forced cylindrical capsule inclined at a horizontal angle, and the motion of the ball inside the capsule follows from the impacts with the capsule ends and gravity.

Sorghum Protein: Ethanol‐Based Extraction to Improve Yield and Properties

open access: yesSustainable Food Proteins, Volume 4, Issue 2, June 2026.
A key barrier to expanding the use of sorghum‐based proteins is the challenge related to protein extraction and utilization via conventional methods. This work evaluated a blended solvent approach (ethanol:alkali) for protein extraction from ground, pearled sorghum and wet‐milled sorghum protein meal to improve yield and properties.

Environmental DNA Biosurveillance of Chelonid Herpesvirus 5 (ChHV5) in Endangered Sea Turtles Around Singapore

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
This study explores the application of environmental DNA sampling for chelonid herpesvirus 5 (ChHV5) surveillance in endangered sea turtles around Singapore. We demonstrate the direct detection of ChHV5 from seawater, and the feasibility of sediment‐based ChHV5 detection using a spike‐and‐recovery experiment.

A vertical‐vibro‐impact‐enhanced track bistable nonlinear energy sink for robust and comprehensive control of structures

open access: yesStructural Control & Health Monitoring, 2022
Nonlinear energy sinks (NESs) are a type of frequency‐robust mass dampers which have been proposed as a favorable strategy for control problems with frequency uncertainties.

Analysis of a vibro-impact nonlinear energy sink: theoretical and numerical developments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Recently, it has been demonstrated that a Vibro-Impact type Nonlinear Energy Sink (VI-NES) can be used efficiently to mitigate vibration of a Linear Oscillator (LO) under transient loading and harmonic force.
