Does Epistemic Humility Threaten Religious Beliefs? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In a fallen world fraught with evidence against religious beliefs, it is tempting to think that, on the assumption that those beliefs are true, the best way to protect them is to hold them dogmatically.

The Osteoblastic Microenvironment Determines the Fate of Breast Cancer Cells Disseminated in the Bone Marrow

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study revealed how the osteoblastic microenvironment determines the fate of cancer cells disseminated in bone, with a focus on whether they colonize, reside in quiescence, or reactivate from dormancy. Targeting integrin signaling may offer promising strategies for preventing quiescent cancer cells reactivation and bone colonization.

HIDING BEHIND THE CLOUDS: EFFICIENT, PRIVACY-PRESERVING QUERIES VIA CLOUD PROXIES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This project proposes PriView, a privacy-preserving technique for querying third-party ser- vices from mobile devices. Classical private information retrieval (PIR) schemes are diffi- cult to deploy and use, since they require the target service to be ...

Educating through Exemplars: Alternative Paths to Virtue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper confronts Zagzebski’s exemplarism with the intertwined debates over the conditions of exemplarity and the unity-disunity of the virtues, to show the advantages of a pluralistic exemplar-based approach to moral education (PEBAME).

Farnesyltransferase Deficiency in Cardiomyocytes Initiates Senescence and Contributes to Cardiac Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid overload suppresses SREBF2‐mediated FNTB expression, leading to defective Lamin A maturation and nuclear envelope instability. This nuclear catastrophe triggers a pro‐fibrotic senescence program in cardiomyocytes. Notably, restoring nuclear integrity via AAV9‐based gene therapy effectively attenuates cardiac remodeling, identifying the ...

Amyloid β Instigates Cardiac Neurotrophic Signaling Impairment, Driving Alzheimer's Associated Heart Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research identified cardiac amyloid pathology, neurotrophic factor depletion, and reduced myocardial nerve function in a transgenic model of cerebral amyloidosis (Tg2576), Aβ‐challenged cardiomyocytes, and in human AD heart tissue. These findings carry significant diagnostic and therapeutic implications, emphasizing the role of neuro‐signaling ...

BGN/MDK Axis in the Melanoma Tumor Microenvironment Strengthens Tumor Malignancy by Modulating Cancer Cells and Cancer‐Associated Fibroblasts Crosstalk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that m6A regulators cooperatively upregulate BGN in melanoma, promoting malignancy. Within the tumor microenvironment, CAFs show highest BGN expression. The BGN/MDK axis mediates cancer‐stroma crosstalk, driving normal fibroblast (NF) activation and enhancing the pro‐tumor effect of CAFs, highlighting a promising therapeutic target ...
