Synthesis of hafnium carbide (HfC) via one‐step selective laser reaction pyrolysis from liquid polymer precursor

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 108, Issue 9, September 2025.
➢ A one‐step selective laser reaction pyrolysis (SLRP) technique was developed to rapidly synthesize hafnium carbide (HfC) from liquid polymer precursors. ➢ XRD and TEM confirmed the nanocrystalline structure of the HfC. ➢ The SLRP‐based process achieved up to 54% ceramic yield, 18% higher than furnace‐based methods.

Bringing electrical conductivity to SiAlON ceramics by integrating zeolitic imidazolate framework‐derived nanocarbons

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 108, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract α/β‐Silicon aluminum oxynitride (SiAlON) ceramics reinforced with zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF‐8) up to 20 wt% have been fabricated by spark plasma sintering to impart electrical conductivity without compromising the mechanical properties.

The American cocoa pod borer, Carmenta foraseminis, an emerging pest of cocoa: A review El barrenador americano de la mazorca de cacao, Carmenta foraseminis, una plaga emergente del cacao: una revisión

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 3, Page 340-356, August 2025.
Abstract This review provides a synthesis of the available knowledge on Carmenta foraseminis, an emerging cocoa pest in northern South America. This moth was first described in 1995 in Panama, and its proliferation across the Amazon basin is currently threatening the production of cocoa in the region and may endanger the sector's sustainability. Hence,

Effect of carbon content on electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of pressureless sintered SiC ceramics

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 108, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract This study investigates the influence of carbon content, ranging from 2.5 to 13.0 wt.%, on the electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of pressureless sintered SiC ceramics sintered with 0.8 wt.% B4C. The results indicate a substantial decrease in electrical resistivity from 4.7 × 102 to 9.1 × 10−2 Ω cm, particularly when carbon content

A Comparative In Vitro Study of Materials for Provisional Restorations Manufactured With Additive (3Dprinting), Subtractive (Milling), and Conventional Techniques

open access: yesJournal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Volume 37, Issue 8, Page 2011-2020, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the mechanical, chemical, and surface properties of three materials used for provisional restorations, manufactured with additive (3D‐printing), subtractive (milling), and conventional techniques. Materials and Methods Three material groups were tested: (a) GC TempPRINT, (3D‐printed/3DP), (b) VITA CAD‐Temp, (milled/ML ...

Enhancing the Age‐Hardening Response of Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion WE43 Alloy through Microstructural Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 13, July 2025.
Laser powder‐bed fusion (L‐PBF) can produce dense WE43 magnesium alloy parts, but their mechanical properties are limited by a nonhomogeneous microstructure. This study investigates the effects of varying direct aging (T5) and artificial age‐hardening (T6) conditions on microstructure and strength. Optimized T6 treatment significantly improves strength
