Vickers Hardness Indentations Measured with Atomic Force Microscopy

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1998
Abstract Vickers hardness indentations on a steel gage block (-900 HV) with diagonals between 3.4 and 44 µm have been measured with a calibrated atomic force microscope (AFM) and with an opticalbased method. From the AFM images the diagonals were measured from hard copies of diagonal profiles and automatically by image analysis.

Low-Load Vickers Microindentation Hardness Testing

AM&P Technical Articles, 2012
Abstract This article reviews the measurement physics of macro and micro Vickers indentation testing and the factors that determine measurement precision and repeatability. Study results show that when force loads of less than 100 gf are used, it is difficult for operators to precisely determine the position of the indenter tip, leading ...

HARDNESS UNIFORMITY OF VICKERS HARDNESS BLOCKS FOR THE HIGH HARDNESS RANGE

2014
Hardness uniformity is the most important property of hardness block and depends on the quality of the starting material, process of obtaining, heat and surface treatment. All parameters must be selected very carefully to achieve homogenous microstructure with no defects.
