Comparison of conventional Knoop and Vickers hardness of ceramic materials

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2017
Abstract Ceramics generally have a lower Knoop than Vickers hardness. This difference is due to the elastic recovery occurring around a Knoop indentation and the difference in representative area considered to calculate the hardness value. Conventional hardness tests with Knoop and Vickers indenters were performed in order to show how Knoop hardness

Vicker's Hardness of glass

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1974
Abstract An equation has been derived for the direct calculation of Vicker's hardness number of glasses from their chemical compositions. The method is based on a consideration of deformation during indentation, which was related to Young's modulus and the average single bond strength of a glass.

Hardness measured with traditional Vickers and Martens hardness methods

Dental Materials, 2007
To determine the differences, if any, between hardness measured with traditional Vickers and Martens hardness test methods on denture teeth under 2, 10 and 50 N loads.Hardness of acrylic resin (VIV), composite resin (ORT) and porcelain (POR) denture tooth materials was measured using a traditional Vickers hardness (HV) method and Martens hardness (HM ...

Comparison of Ultrasonic-Hardness-Tester Hardness and Micro-Vickers Hardness

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2007
Examination methods of industrial hardnesses such as Vickers hardness and Rockwell hardness are used for the characteristic measurement of materials. These methods assume that the length of the plastic deformation is a reliable index of hardness. Since the indenters used in these methods produce deformation imprints and the methods themselves are ...

Analysis of the Vickers hardness of electroplated coatings

Philosophical Magazine A, 1996
Abstract The Vickers hardness of electroplated nickel is analysed using the finite-element method. The effects of the mechanical properties of the substrate and the thickness of the coating on the effective hardness are studied. The predicted values are compared with experimental results for electroplated nickel on 70–30 brass and maraging steel.

Measurement of Vickers hardness on ceramic floor tiles [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of the European Ceramic Society, 2007
In this paper, Vickers macro- and micro-hardness of ceramic floor tiles samples made from two types of clay materials, kaolinite and illite–carbonate raw materials, were presented. The samples, designed separately, from both types of clay materials were shaped by dry pressing at 25 MPa, then fired at 960 and 1050 ◦ C in laboratory conditions and ...

Determining Temperature-Dependent Vickers Hardness with Machine Learning

The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2021
Assessing the hardness of structural materials at elevated temperatures is experimentally and computationally challenging, yet crucial for their success. In this work, a machine-learning method was developed to determine a material's temperature-dependent hardness based on its chemical composition and crystal structure.
