On the Application of Vickers Micro Hardness Testing to Isotactic Polypropylene [PDF]

open access: goldPolymers, 2022
Hardness is a useful measure of a material’s resistance to permanent indentation; but for viscoelastic polymers, hardness data are highly dependent on the test type and the parameter set chosen. Vickers microhardness testing is used to leave small indents (<150 µm) and is shown to be applicable to polymers.

Electrodeposition of Ni-Co Alloys and Their Mechanical Properties by Micro-Vickers Hardness Test [PDF]

open access: goldElectrochem, 2020
Nanocrystalline Ni-Co alloy deposits with grain sizes less than 30 nm were produced by electrodeposition with a direct current in a sulfamate bath. Surfaces of the Ni-Co alloy deposits showed granular morphology. The size of the granular particles and the Co content decreased when a lower current density was applied.

Evaluation ofr-value of steels using Vickers hardness test [PDF]

open access: goldJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2012
The plastic strain ratio (Lankford value, r-value) is an index of mechanical anisotropy of sheet metals. The Vickers hardness is measured to determine the r-value. Tensile and indentation tests of three kinds of commercial steel sheets are conducted in directions 0°, 45° and 90° to the rolling direction.

Computer simulation of stress distribution during Vickers hardness testing of WC-6Co [PDF]

open access: diamondMaterials Research, 2006
This paper describes a numerical simulation and experimental study of the Vickers indentation testing of WC-6Co specimens. The numerical analysis was implemented by a three-dimensional finite element (FE) model using the commercial solver MARC™. Hardness values predicted by this model agreed well with those obtained experimentally.

Determination of Film Thickness Through Simulation of Vickers Hardness Testing [PDF]

open access: diamondMaterials Research, 2017
In recent decades, changes in the surface properties of materials have been used to improve their tribology characteristics. However, this improvement depends on the process, treatment time and, essentially, the thickness of this surface film layer. Physical vapor deposition (PVD) has been used to increase the surface hardness of metallic materials ...

Evaluation of mechanical characteristics of steel bars by non-destructive Vickers micro-hardness tests

open access: goldProcedia Structural Integrity, 2023
Materials’ properties evaluation represents a crucial aspect for the static and seismic assessment of existing Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures and infrastructures. While concrete's mechanical characteristics are classically investigated by both destructive tests (DTs) and non-destructive tests (NDTs), for steel reinforcing bars the use of NDTs is ...

Imprints method for determining the ratio of macro- and microhardness when tested for Vickers hardness

open access: goldJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2020
Abstract The method has been developed for calculating microhardness values under different loads, with known macro-hardness as well as with macro-hardness and microhardness with a single microhardness value, based on comparing the size of non-recovered and recovered imprints – imprints method (IM).
