Exploring 3D anatomy: A free online course supporting novice learner inquiry and spatial conceptualization

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Application of three‐dimensional anatomical knowledge is essential for patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment and is crucial in the training of medical and healthcare students. Moreover, critical observation and spatial awareness are vital for learner understanding of three‐dimensional anatomical structures and relationships.

Arthroscopic Bicortical Biceps Anchorage: An Arthroscopic‐Assisted Technique for Subpectoral Biceps Tenodesis

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Long head of the biceps tendon pathology is a frequent cause of anterior shoulder pain. Tenotomy is technically simple but may lead to cosmetic deformity and muscle cramping, whereas tenodesis better preserves the biceps contour but involves a more complex procedure. Multiple surgical techniques and fixation methods are available.

Supine‐Position Shoulder Arthroscopy Using the Anterior Portal as the Initial Approach

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Traditional shoulder arthroscopy mostly adopts the beach chair position or lateral decubitus position. Beach chair position is associated with the risk of cerebral hypoperfusion due to the vertical distance between the carotid artery and the heart, whereas lateral decubitus may induce brachial plexus palsy caused by excessive traction.

Video-assisted thoracic surgery for pulmonary aspergilloma [PDF]

open access: yesInteractive CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery, 2010
The purpose of this retrospective study was to review our experience with video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) for pulmonary aspergilloma. The patients (n=20) were aged 62+/-12 years, and eight (40%) were aged 70 years or more. The disease types were simple aspergilloma (SA) in six patients and complex aspergilloma (CA) in 14. The surgical procedures

Soft Cerclage in Addition to Rigid Fixation for Surgical Management of Displaced Comminuted Midshaft Clavicle Fractures

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Midshaft clavicle fractures are one of the most common upper extremity fractures among adults. When displaced, open reduction and internal fixation may be indicated, most commonly performed using single or dual plating. Cerclage techniques can be used in addition to lag screws and plate fixation to better capture and reduce inferior and ...

Refining Shoulder Diagnostics: A Technical Note on Scapular Physical Examination

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Normal scapulothoracic function relies on a delicate balance among several periscapular muscles and is essential for shoulder motion. Disturbance in this balance can lead to abnormal motion, which can impair shoulder function, leading to pain and discomfort.

Single-port robotic segmentectomy using the da Vinci SP system for non-small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery
ObjectivesRobot-assisted thoracic surgery using the single-port robotic system is a novel minimally invasive approach; however, clinical data on its use for anatomical segmentectomy remain limited. Therefore, this single-center retrospective cohort study

Bridging Anatomy Curricular Gaps: Leveraging Student‐Created Video Resources in Elective Courses

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traditional anatomical donor‐based dissection has long served as the cornerstone of anatomical education. However, with increasingly condensed curricula and diverse student learning preferences, multimedia tools have become vital adjuncts to support engagement, comprehension, and accessibility. At the Carle Illinois College of Medicine (CI MED)

Short-term Outcome of Uniportal and Three Portal Video-assisted Thoracic Surgery for Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesChinese Journal of Lung Cancer, 2018
Background and objective Currently, there are many reports on the advantages of three portal video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) in the treatment of lung cancer, but there are few reports on the comparison between uniportal and three portal video ...
