Audio channel constraints in video-mediated communication
Interacting with Computers, 2004This study investigated the effects of two types of audio channels upon the effectiveness of task-based interactions in a video-mediated context (VMC). Forty undergraduates completed a collaborative task (The Map Task) using either a full or half-duplex audio channel.

Developing a Video-Mediated Communication System for Hospitalized Children
Telemedicine Journal, 1999When a student is away from school for an extended time due to illness, he/she is provided with a tutor or access to in-hospital classrooms to keep up with his/her studies. This isolates the child from normal classroom experiences. A remote-control videoconferencing system (VCS), P.E.B.B.L.E.S.trade mark (Providing Education by Bringing Learning ...

Camera angle affects dominance in video-mediated communication
CHI '02 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2002Physical proximity and appearance guide people to interact with each other in different ways [1,6]. However, in Video-Mediated Communications (VMC), these are distorted in various ways. Monitors and camera zooms make people look close or far, monitors and camera angles can be high or low making people look tall or short, volume can be loud or soft ...

Embodiment of Video-mediated Communication Enhances Social Telepresence
Proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Human Agent Interaction, 2016There are several merits to embody the remote partner's body to the video conference: showing it physically, making a physical contact, and enhancing social telepresence. In this paper, we tackled to embody a part of a remote partner's body in a video conference.

Eye contact and video-mediated communication: A review
Displays, 2013A relatively new form of human communication, video-conferencing has become more popular as video technology improves and with increasing demands for real-time communication across greater distances. The full effects of video-conferencing on human communication are still being explored.

Models for Decision Making in Video Mediated Communication
Proceedings of the 2014 workshop on Understanding and Modeling Multiparty, Multimodal Interactions, 2014There is an abundance of players in the domain of video communication, offering systems for various purposes and different capabilities. However, these systems are still very limited in adapting the visual presentation of the remote participants to the participants' needs. In this paper we describe the components, the implementation and the overall ...

Investigating factors influencing trust in video-mediated communication
Proceedings of the 22nd Conference of the Computer-Human Interaction Special Interest Group of Australia on Computer-Human Interaction, 2010Videoconferencing systems are increasingly used for a variety of tasks. Many of these tasks demand reliable, high quality communication support. Trust plays an important role in interpersonal communication, sometimes even as an enabler for effective communication.

Weak gaze awareness in video-mediated communication
CHI '05 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2005We present a video mediated communication system that conveys gaze information to a remote location. Unlike existing video mediated communication system, this system does not send visual information directly, only gaze position and face direction. The appearance of those cues on the display depends on the distance between the screen and the user's eyes,
