OmegaWINGS: OmegaCAM@VST observations of WINGS galaxy clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Wide-field Nearby Galaxy-cluster Survey (WINGS) is a wide-field multi-wavelength survey of X-ray selected clusters at z =0.04-0.07. The original 34'x34' WINGS field-of- view has now been extended to cover a 1 sq.deg field with both photometry and ...

A catalog of video records of the 2013 Chelyabinsk superbolide [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2015
The Chelyabinsk superbolide of February 15, 2013, was caused by the atmospheric entry of a ~19 m asteroid with a kinetic energy of 500 kT TNT just south of the city of Chelyabinsk, Russia. It was a rare event; impacts of similar energy occur on the Earth only a few times per century. Impacts of this energy near such a large urban area are expected only

Digital Actuation Control of Soft Robotic Origami With Self‐Folding Liquid Crystal Elastomer Hinges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐folding soft‐rigid hybrid robotic origami is enabled by liquid crystal elastomer actuators with embedded Joule heating and closed‐loop digital control. Digitally addressable hinges provide reversible and programmable transitions between distinct folded states while maintaining actuation performance at high cycle counts (over 1500).

VIVID: A qPCR‐Based Platform for Sensitive and Quantitative In Vivo Tracking of Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces VIVID (Vesicle In Vivo Identification using DNA), a qPCR‐based platform that tracks PCR‐amplifiable DNA tags loaded in the EVs for accurate and quantifiable EV biodistribution in vivo. ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) represent promising carriers for nucleic acid therapeutics, offering advantages over synthetic nanoparticles ...

Patient‐Derived 3D Bioprinted Cardiac Organoid Constructs Reveal Key Pathological Features of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived cardiac organoids reveal key features of Duchenne muscular dystrophy cardiomyopathy, including apoptosis, oxidative stress, calcium handling defects, and mechanical remodeling. By integrating organoids into alginate–gelatin bioprinted constructs, disease phenotypes are organized into scalable 3D cardiac tissues displaying extracellular ...
