Cataloging fish sounds in the wild using combined acoustic and video recordings [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018
Although many fish are soniferous, few of their sounds have been identified, making passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) ineffective. To start addressing this issue, a portable 6-hydrophone array combined with a video camera was assembled to catalog fish sounds in the wild.

Purpose‐Adaptable Reinforced 3D Hyaluronic‐Acid Based Platform to Study Pathomechanisms of the Central Nervous System

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Platform system to create biofabricated 3D spinal cord tissue models: Combining high resolution PCL fiber placement, a customized, hyaluronic acid‐based hydrogel, two cell types (spinal cord neurons and astrocytes) together with three distinct laminin isoforms allow the formation of functional cell–cell network interactions.

Expected seismicity and the seismic noise environment of Europa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Seismic data will be a vital geophysical constraint on internal structure of Europa if we land instruments on the surface. Quantifying expected seismic activity on Europa both in terms of large, recognizable signals and ambient background noise is ...

Two‐Photon Polymerized Microvascular Environments for Multicellular Modeling of the Blood–Brain Tumor Barrier

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Modeling the blood–brain tumor barrier is challenging due to complex interactions between brain microvasculature and glioma cells. We present two‐photon polymerized 3D micro‐porous capillary‐like structures that support endothelial alignment, cytoskeletal organization, and pericyte‐endothelial‐glioma tri‐cultures.

Microglia Mitochondria Support Neuronal Maturation via Metabolic and Transcriptional Reprogramming in Human 3D In Vitro Brain Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
xx xx. ABSTRACT Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by disrupted neuronal circuit maturation. Emerging evidence implicates microglial function and mitochondrial regulation as contributors to ASD‐associated biology, yet the mechanisms linking these processes to neuronal development remain poorly defined ...

Supporting the active learning of collaborative database browsing techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We describe the implications of a study of database browsing behaviour for the development of a system to support more effective browsing. In particular we consider the importance of collaborative working, both in learning browsing skills and in co ...

Stochastic Nanoscale Biophysical Cues as a Basis for the Induction of Glioblastoma‐Like Transcriptional Programs in Astrocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stochastic nanoscale physical cues induce glioblastoma (GBM)‐associated transcriptional traits in naïve astrocytes leading to spontaneous formation of spheroids. Cells within spheroids express activated‐MMP2 and a differential gene expression pattern involving P53 and NOTCH3, providing evidence for a role for changes in brain topography, as observed in

Individuals responsible for video games: an exploration of cataloging practice, user need and authorship theory

open access: yesJournal of Documentation, 2022
PurposeAuthor information is one of the primary metadata elements for information access. While assigning “author(s)” has been relatively straightforward in library systems for textual resources, challenges have emerged in recording creatorship information for collaborative creative works, with surrogates erring on the side of caution and providing ...
