Distributed Video Coding

Proceedings of the IEEE, 2005
Distributed coding is a new paradigm for video compression, based on Slepian and Wolf's and Wyner and Ziv's information-theoretic results from the 1970s. This paper reviews the recent development of practical distributed video coding schemes. Wyner-Ziv coding, i.e., lossy compression with receiver side information, enables low-complexity video encoding

Interweaved Prediction for Video Coding

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2020
In the emerging next generation video coding standard Versatile Video Coding (VVC) developed by the Joint Video Exploration Team (JVET), sub-block-based inter-prediction plays a key role in promising coding tools such as Affine Motion Compensation (AMC) and sub-block-based Temporal Motion Vector Prediction (sbTMVP).

Two-Terminal Video Coding

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2009
Following recent works on the rate region of the quadratic Gaussian two-terminal source coding problem and limit-approaching code designs, this paper examines multiterminal source coding of two correlated, i.e., stereo, video sequences to save the sum rate over independent coding of both sequences.

Coding Trajectory: Enable Video Coding for Video Denoising

2018 25th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2018
We introduce a novel video denoising approach which can produce a clean video by utilizing redundant image patches existed in the video frames. Previous multi-frame video denosing approaches either require image registration or employ Patch Match algorithms for the discovery of the patch redundancy.

Layered Wyner-Ziv video coding

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
Following recent theoretical works on successive Wyner-Ziv coding (WZC), we propose a practical layered Wyner-Ziv video coder using the DCT, nested scalar quantization, and irregular LDPC code based Slepian-Wolf coding (or lossless source coding with side information at the decoder).

CodingFlow: Enable Video Coding for Video Stabilization

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2017
Video coding focuses on reducing the data size of videos. Video stabilization targets at removing shaky camera motions. In this paper, we enable video coding for video stabilization by constructing the camera motions based on the motion vectors employed in the video coding.

Tensor video coding

2013 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2013
In this paper, we exploit the intrinsic tensor-nature of video and propose a Tensor Video Coding (TVC) framework that is based on tensor decomposition. We develop a Progressive Canonical-decomposition Parallel-factor (PCP) framework that is tailored for video representation and coding.

Advanced video coding

Communications Engineer, 2003
Advanced video coding techniques will allow broadcasters to improve the efficiency offered by MPEG-2 digital TV systems by up to 75%. The opportunity for significant improvements in MPEG-2 performance is now very limited. MPEG-2 solutions are likely to become more dense, lower power and inexpensive, but they are not going to produce much lower bit ...

Localized Video Coding

Journal of Signal Processing Systems, 2018
This paper describes a novel scheme of video coding structure called Localized Video Coding (LVC) infra structure. Unlike the existing video coding standards, LVC is a video coding structure that is parallel-friendly. LVC will divide a video sequence into several sub-sequences and process them independently.
