Abstract The demand for analyzing images from sources such as closed‐circuit television cameras has increased significantly. Conventional analyses, including gait and soft biometrics, typically require the comparison of two video footage clips, as these methods are predicated on video‐to‐video comparisons.

Semantic-Based Surveillance Video Retrieval
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2007Visual surveillance produces large amounts of video data. Effective indexing and retrieval from surveillance video databases are very important. Although there are many ways to represent the content of video clips in current video retrieval algorithms, there still exists a semantic gap between users and retrieval systems.

Intelligent video surveillance
Computer, 2012Safety and security reasons are pushing the growth of surveillance systems, for both prevention and forensic tasks. Unfortunately, most of the installed systems have recording capability only, with quality so poor that makes them completely unhelpful.

Unsupervised Video Surveillance
2011This paper addresses the problem of automatically learning common behaviors from long time observations of a scene of interest, with the purpose of classifying actions and, possibly, detecting anomalies. Unsupervised learning is used as an effective way to extract information from the scene with a very limited intervention of the user.

Proceedings of the 5th Workshop on Middleware and Applications for the Internet of Things, 2018
In public video surveillance, there is an inherent conflict between public safety goals and privacy needs of citizens. Generally, societies tend to decide on middleground solutions that sacrifice neither safety nor privacy goals completely. In this paper, we propose an alternative to existing approaches that rely on cloud-based video analysis.
