Endoscopic management of lateral sphenoid cerebrospinal fluid leaks: Identifying a radiographic parameter for surgical planning

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, 2020
Objective Repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks of the lateral recess of the sphenoid (LRS) sinus can be challenging to accomplish via an endoscopic transphenoidal approach.

Anatomic Diagram as a Novel Assessment Strategy for Subclinical Local Residual Disease in Sinonasal Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Intestinal‐Type Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, Volume 16, Issue 4, Page 333-344, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective In the last two decades, transnasal endoscopic surgery (TES) has become pivotal in the management of sinonasal tumors. This approach involves a multiblock tumor resection, adding complexity to the interpretation of surgical margins after pathological examination.

Anterior Nasal Nerves: A Cadaveric Anatomic and Immunohistochemical Analysis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 3, Page 1158-1165, March 2026.
Anterior nasal nerves (ANNs) were identified in all cadavers, with more supplying the anterolateral nasal wall (ALNW) than the anterior portion of the inferior turbinate (IT), between the pyriform aperture (PA) and middle turbinate (MT). Both sensory and autonomic nerve markers were also identified in the ANNs.

Pneumatization of the sphenoid sinus is the major factor determining the variations of adjacent vital structures

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Otolaryngology
Background Sphenoid sinus (SS) is an important landmark for endoscopic sinus surgery (ESC) and endoscopic skull base surgery. This study examines the relation of the extent of pneumatization of the sphenoid sinus with adjacent vital structures such as ...

Evaluation of the pterygoid process pneumatization and sclerosis with Vidian canal morphology using computed tomography: a comparative study in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients and healthy controls

open access: yesFolia Morphologica
BACKGROUND: To evaluate the morphological characteristics of the pterygoid process — including pneumatization and sclerosis — alongside vidian canal (VC) type and length in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) compared to healthy controls using ...

The first neuroanatomical study of a marine pleurodire (the large Paleocene bothremydid Azzabaremys moragjonesi) reveals convergences with other clades of pelagic turtles [PDF]

open access: yesFossil Record
Azzabaremys moragjonesi, from the Paleocene of Mali, is a member of Nigeremydini. This is a clade of bothremydid pleurodiran turtles that includes large putatively marine forms which inhabited the African Trans-Saharian Seaway from the Maastrichtian to ...

Current Insights Into Individualized Diagnosis and Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis Based on Phenotype and Endotype

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Volume 12, Issue 1, Page 124-135, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa characterized by allergen sensitization and the involvement of multiple inflammatory mediators. Currently, the treatment of AR mainly includes symptomatic relief, anti‐inflammatory therapy, and nerve desensitization. However, these treatments have limitations in fully

Unusual Morphologic Presentation of Perineural Spread From Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Diagnosis Aided by Comprehensive Molecular Analysis and Machine Learning

open access: yesJournal of Cutaneous Pathology, Volume 52, Issue 9, Page 568-573, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Neoplasms of unknown primary frequently pose a diagnostic challenge due to their nonspecific morphological and immunohistochemical features. Definitive classification of these neoplasms has a profound impact on treatment decisions. Mutational and gene expression profiling can provide diagnostic and prognostic information in these challenging ...

Neuroanatomical study of the podocnemidid turtle Neochelys arenarum (Pleurodira), from the early Eocene of France

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 308, Issue 6, Page 1646-1658, June 2025.
Abstract Neochelys is an exclusively European Eocene podocnemidid genus belonging to a linage that reached this continent at the early Eocene. The so far available anatomical information about it is relatively abundant, especially considering that of its shell, at least partially preserved for the eight valid species currently considered.
