Evaluation of ß-lactamase-induced inactivation of penicillin G and cefoperazone in spiked ultra-high temperature and raw unpasteurized milk

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
IntroductionIn Austria, veterinary medicinal products (VMPs) containing penicillin G or cefoperazone are frequently used to treat dairy cows, which leads to the production of non-saleable waste milk.

Saturated very long-chain fatty acids regulate macrophage plasticity and invasiveness

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2022
Saturated very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA, ≥ C22), enriched in brain myelin and innate immune cells, accumulate in X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) due to inherited dysfunction of the peroxisomal VLCFA transporter ABCD1.

Investigating the Low‐Temperature Phase Stability of the Binary Ta–W System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic simulations show that the binary Ta–W system forms ordered intermetallic phases, B2‐TaW and D03‐TaW3, as 0 K ground states. Configurational entropy, however, lowers the free energy of the disordered bcc solid solution, which becomes the stable phase above about 400 K.

RNA-based characterization of ribosomally active microbial communities during beef slaughtering

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
InroductionMicrobiological contamination on beef carcasses shortens shelf-life and poses substantial food-safety risks. The application of RNA-based analysis nowadays enables insights into the potentially active fraction of microbial communities by ...

Pressure‐Assisted Dimensional Transformation of 2D Hydrogenated Borophene into 0D Boron Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrogenated borophene (HB) is transformed into distinct boron nanostructures through a solvent‐free thermal process. Under flowing nitrogen, hydrogen escape promotes reconstruction into B2O3 nanoplatelets, whereas hydrogen‐induced pressure under sealed conditions facilitates fragmentation into boron quantum dots.
