Dynamic BOLD functional connectivity in humans and its electrophysiological correlates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Neural oscillations subserve many human perceptual and cognitive operations. Accordingly, brain functional connectivity is not static in time, but fluctuates dynamically following the synchronization and desynchronization of neural populations.

Decoding Vigilance with NIRS

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Sustained, long-term cognitive workload is associated with variations and decrements in performance. Such fluctuations in vigilance can be a risk factor especially during dangerous attention demanding activities. Functional MRI studies have shown that attentional performance is correlated with BOLD-signals, especially in parietal and prefrontal ...

Dual‐Biomimetic Bone Adhesive with Osteoimmunomodulatory Capabilities for Anatomical Reconstruction of Comminuted Fractures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A structurally and functionally dual bionic bone adhesive is engineered through an organic–inorganic cohesion strategy, which significantly reinforces the adhesive's bone tissue adhesion as well as osteogenic activity. In a pioneering rabbit radius comminuted fracture model, the bone adhesive exhibits exceptional capability in immobilizing bone ...

The effects of theta-burst stimulation on vigilance in humans

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2014
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation has become a popular tool to modulate neuronal networks and associated brain functions in both clinical and basic research.

Water bathing alters threat perception in starlings. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The majority of bird taxa perform water bathing, but little is known about the adaptive value of this behaviour. If bathing is important for feather maintenance then birds that have not bathed should have poorer feather condition, compromised escape ...

A Full‐Range Proximity‐Tactile Sensor Based on Multimodal Perception Fusion for Minimally Invasive Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A full‐range proximity‐tactile sensing module is developed for safe operation of surgical robots, which performs multimodal fusion perception through ultrasonic sensor for long‐range proximity detection, capacitive sensor for close‐range proximity sensing, and triboelectric sensor for tactile sensing.

Fright or Flight? Behavioural Responses of Kangaroos to Drone-Based Monitoring

open access: yesDrones, 2019
Drones are often considered an unobtrusive method of monitoring terrestrial wildlife; however research into whether drones disturb wildlife is in its early stages.

Enhanced Brain‐Heart Connectivity as a Precursor of Reduced State Anxiety after Therapeutic Virtual Reality Immersion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that enhanced brain‐to‐heart coupling is a precursor of anxiety reduction following a virtual reality‐based non‐pharmacological intervention. Driven by midline beta rhythms, this effect suggests the involvement of central‐autonomic interactions.

Modeling scan and interscan durations in antipredator vigilance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Many prey species alternate between bouts of foraging and bouts of antipredator vigilance. Models of vigilance typically predict how much total time prey animals should allocate to vigilance but do not specify how that time should be scheduled throughout
