Taxonomic, Phylogenetic and Functional Diversity Behave Differently Under Disturbance Pressure and Complex Land‐Use History: Assembly Rules in Grassland Communities

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Grasslands in the Alps are undergoing land‐use change triggering ecological succession and affecting community composition. Taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity are used as complementary information to infer on community assembly processes, supporting conservation practices.

Mapping Mediterranean bentho‐demersal communities to better inform marine conservation

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2026.
Marine protected areas are one of the most common conservation tools being implemented worldwide to reach conservation targets, but their implementation does not usually take the heterogeneous distribution of bentho‐demersal communities into account.

Effects of Increased Water Salinity and Temperature on the Development of Rainbow Trout Fry Syndrome (RTFS) Caused by Flavobacterium psychrophilum

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 49, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Flavobacterium psychrophilum, the etiological agent of Rainbow Trout Fry Syndrome (RTFS) and Bacterial Coldwater Disease (BCWD), causes varying degrees of disease and mortality in salmonid aquaculture worldwide. Because its treatment relies on the use of antimicrobials, alternative interventions are of environmental and economic interest.

At‐sea distribution of seals on the Northwest European Shelf: Towards transboundary conservation and management

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study provides the first comprehensive, regionally scalable distribution estimates for pinnipeds across the NWES and its constituent countries. The modelling framework is adaptable to other central‐place and migratory species, supporting transboundary biodiversity assessments and international conservation policy. We discuss common limitations and

Analysis of seismocardiographic signals using polynomial chirplet transform and smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Signal Processing in Medicine and Biology Symposium, 2017
Seismocardiographic (SCG) signals are chest surface vibrations induced by cardiac activity. These signals may offer a method for diagnosing and monitoring heart function.

La Sardegna romana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006

Rare and Vulnerable: Mires of the Western Alps Are Changing Rapidly Under Climate Pressures

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 29, Issue 1, January/March 2026.
Resurveys of Sphagnum‐dominated mires in the Western Alps revealed marked vegetation changes over 12‐ and 25‐year periods. Observed patterns include increased species richness, woody plant encroachment, and declines in mire specialists, indicative of the progressive drying.

Long‐Term Exposure of Bivalves to Ocean Acidification and Warming Under Ecologically‐Realistic Conditions Reveals Risks for Aquaculture by 2050 in the Mediterranean

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Bivalve mollusks are vital to coastal economies and food security, yet the impact of ocean warming and acidification on aquaculture remains unclear due to a lack of ground truth data on future production. Most experimental studies rely on short‐term, single‐factor experiments in stable and food‐unlimited environments, making it difficult to ...

Genome‐Wide Population Structure in a Marine Keystone Species, the European Flat Oyster (Ostrea edulis)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 23, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Ostrea edulis, the European flat oyster, was once a widespread economically and ecologically important marine species, but has suffered dramatic declines over the past two centuries. Consequently, there has been a surge in European restoration efforts, many of which focus on restocking as a conservation measure.
