Cobalt–Oxygen Bond Homolysis in the Bench‐Stable (Salen*)Cobalt(III) Acetate Complex: Insight into the Organometallic Mediated Radical Polymerization of Diverse Monomers

open access: yesMacromolecular Chemistry and Physics, EarlyView.
The air‐stable [(Salen*)Co(OAc)] complex initiates the radical polymerization of vinyl monomers via Co–O bond homolysis, distinguishing it from classical air‐sensitive cobalt complexes relying on Co‐C bond cleavage. Accordingly, MMA polymerization proceeds via catalytic chain‐transfer while MA undergoes controlled OMRP involving two distinct initiation

Biobased Hyperbranched Polyesters as Effective Non‐Leachable UV Blockers for Sunscreens

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Three UV‐active hyperbranched polyesters are synthesized using lignin‐based monomeric molecules and potentially biobased hydandoin. These hyperbranched polymers show effective UV absorption in solution and blended creams. The blended creams show desirable photostability and negligible leakage into fresh or salt water, which indicates their potentially ...

Engineering the Interface of Interfacially‐Locked Graphene in Electrically Conductive Poly (ethylene furanoate)/Polyethylene (PEF/PE) Blends

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
Co‐continuous blends of poly (ethylene furanote)/polyethylene (PEF/PE) filled with graphene nanosheets show highly reduced percolation threshold compared to neat polymer/graphene nanocomposites. The reduced percolation signifies the interlocked graphene at polymer/polymer interface.

Advanced Flexible and Porous Gel Polymer Electrolytes Based on a Photocrosslinked Thiol‐Ene/Hydroxyethyl Cellulose Semi‐Interpenetrating Polymer Network for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of UV‐crosslinked gel polymer electrolytes based on hydroxyethyl cellulose, acrylate monomers, and thiol compounds via thiol–ene click chemistry. A semi‐interpenetrating polymer network structure was developed and comprehensively characterized through spectroscopic, thermal, morphological, and electrochemical analyses

Bio‐Inspired, Zwitterionic Copolymers with Amphiphilic Character

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Zwitterionic copolymers based on arginine‐derived monomers are produced by xanthate‐supported photo‐iniferter reversible‐addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer polymerization. Experiments in relevant conditions show that the designed (co)polymers hardly interact with biologically relevant proteins and enzymes such as bovine serum albumine (BSA), fetal ...
