Seasonal and Simultaneous Cleistogamy in Rostrate Violets (Viola, subsect. Rostratae, Violaceae)

open access: yesPlants, 2021
The special mixed reproductive system, i.e., the ability of an individual plant to develop both open, chasmogamous (CH) flowers adapted to cross-pollination and closed, cleistogamous (CL) flowers with obligate self-pollinating, is a common phenomenon in ...

The native flora of the Redberry Lake Biosphere Region (Saskatchewan, Canada): taxonomy, biogeography, habitats and conservation

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study reports for the first time a checklist of native vascular plants and provides a comprehensive analysis of the flora of the Redberry Lake Biosphere Region (RLBR) in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. To complete an inventory of the regional flora, I conducted intensive field investigations during 2010–2025 and employed detailed examination

Origin of subgenomes in the circumboreal, allopolyploid, carnivorous plant Drosera anglica

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 113, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Premise The parentage of the widespread allopolyploid Drosera anglica, a member of the carnivorous sundew genus, remains uncertain despite over 100 years of morphological, cytological, and, more recently, molecular study. Methods Using transcriptomic and genomic data from 12 species of Drosera sect. Drosera, including four D.

Seasonal variation in wild pig (Sus scrofa) diet revealed by DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, Volume 50, Issue 1, March 2026.
Using DNA metabarcoding of fecal samples, we investigated the diet of wild pigs at an extensive bottomland hardwood forest ecosystem within Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge in Southern Arkansas. We found that wild pig diet was highly diverse and included at least 74 plant families and 106 genera and 23 species of vertebrates.

Discovery of insecticidal cyclotides from the African plants Allexis batangae and Allexis obanensis

open access: yesIndustrial Crops and Products
Cyclotides are plant-derived cyclic peptides recognized for their crucial role in host defense against insects and fungal pathogens. They are characterized by an ultra-stable head-to-tail cyclic backbone and a cystine knot formed by three conserved ...

The mechanism of neuroprotective effect of Viola odorata against serum/glucose deprivation-induced PC12 cell death [PDF]

open access: yesAvicenna Journal of Phytomedicine, 2019
Objective: Oxidative stress is associated with the pathogenesis of brain ischemia and other neurodegenerative disorders. Previous researches have shown the antioxidant activity of Viola odorata L. In this project, we studied neuro-protective and reactive

Adaptive Significance of Nickel Hyperaccumulation by Plants

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 41, Issue 2, March 2026.
Metal hyperaccumulation may enhance plant fitness through multiple, non‐exclusive mechanisms, including elemental defense against herbivores and pathogens, altered pollinator interactions, and increased reproductive performance in metal‐rich soils. Metals may also affect plant–plant interactions via elemental allelopathy and improve stress tolerance ...
