Template‐Confined Synthesis of Shape‐Engineered Single‐Crystal Gold Microplates in Lithographically‐Defined Polymeric Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐crystal gold microplates are high‐performance nanomaterials with an impressive wafer‐based application space. Progress has, however, been tempered by an inability to exert synthetic control over microplate size, shape, and positioning. In this work, control over these parameters is demonstrated using a seed‐mediated synthesis that both confines ...

Learning Highly Dynamic Skills Transition for Quadruped Jumping Through Constrained Space

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A quadruped robot masters dynamic jumps through constrained spaces with animal‐inspired moves and intelligent vision control. This hierarchical learning approach combines imitation of biological agility with real‐time trajectory planning. Although legged animals are capable of performing explosive motions while traversing confined spaces, replicating ...

Bioinspired Morphology‐Decoupled Soft Gripper with Enhanced Bidirectional Grasping Capability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological predation, a novel gripper decouples cross‐modal grasping via dual morphological configurations. Synergistically integrating hybrid rigid and soft coupled fingers with a metamaterial palm, the system performs active compliant grasping for static objects and passive cage capture for dynamic targets.

Ethical and Frugal Approaches to Animal Experimentation in Bioelectronics and Neural Engineering—An Invertebrate Renaissance?

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Invertebrates are the classic neuroscience models and should make a comeback. Invertebrate organisms can be a more ethical and cost‐effective way to move bioelectronics research forward more rapidly. ABSTRACT The accelerating development of bioelectronic neural interfaces has brought increased attention to ethical considerations surrounding in vivo ...

Introducing ViNSAR: Dyadic Data on Violent Non-State Actor Rivalry

open access: yesJournal of Conflict Resolution, 2023
A growing line of research examines causes and consequences of militant group competition. However, empirical work on these topics has limitations. Most quantitative research uses relatively rough proxies for competition, such as counts of groups in a country.

Foreign Policy Decision-Making and Violent Non-State Actors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A state's foreign policy is directed toward a variety of external actors. Most understanding of foreign policy behavior, however, is derived from observations of states interacting with other states.
