Summation of the virial expansion for the equation of state

A new method is presented for summation of the virial equation of state up to infinity. The method is based on Holleran's unit compressibility law and leads to a new expression for the equation of state, which has promise for the prediction of the first order phase transition.

On the virial expansion treatment of physical adsorption

Abstract A statistical mechanical theory of solutions is used to obtain an expression for the adsorption potential and for the Gibbs isotherm equation. A virial expansion is developed and its coefficients are shown to be dependent upon a “potential of average force”, as in the McMillan-Mayer theory of solutions.
