VIRTUAL WORK EXPERIENCE IN ACOUSTICS
Inter-Noise 2022, 2023The Institute of Acoustics is in the process of organising a virtual work experience for up to 1000 GCSE and A-Level students. Unlike traditional workplace work experience, the virtual environment will provide an overview of the acoustics industry, an opportunity to engage with a large number of students from anywhere in the UK and a window to show ...

Assessing the Plausibility of Virtual Acoustic Environments
Acta Acustica united with Acustica, 2012Aiming at the perceptual evaluation of virtual acoustic environments (VAEs), 'plausibility' is introduced as a quality criterion that can be of value for many applications in virtual acoustics. We suggest a definition as well as an experimental operationalization for plausibility, referring to the perceived agreement with the listener's expectation ...

Acoustic virtual mass of granular media
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007Mechanical coupling between grains in a randomly packed unconsolidated granular medium is shown to cause an increase in the effective inertia, hence, a reduction in sound and shear wave speeds, relative to predictions by the standard expressions for a uniform elastic solid.
