Caustics and virtual cathodes in electron beams

open access: yesJournal of Plasma Physics, 1988
A simplified model is discussed that captures the basic physics of the phenomenon of oscillatory virtual cathodes in electron beams. A monoenergetic non-relativistic one-dimensional electron beam is injected through a conducting grid into a semi-infinite drift space.

Artificial intelligence–driven decoupling structure–activity relationship for lithium‐ion batteries

open access: yesInfoScience, EarlyView.
Artificial intelligence can efferently accelerate the high‐throughput screening of battery materials, the analysis of multiphase mechanisms, and the precise prediction of capacity and cycle life. This review systematically summarizes the applications of machine learning (ML) in decoupling the complex structure‐activity relationships of lithium‐ion ...

Stochastic 3D reconstruction of cracked polycrystalline NMC particles using 2D SEM data

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
Li-ion battery performance is strongly influenced by the 3D microstructure of its cathode particles. Cracks within these particles develop during calendaring and cycling, reducing connectivity but increasing reactive surface, making their impact on ...

Discovering Shared Design Heritage for Semiconductor‐Based Gamma‐Ray Spectrometers: From CdTe to Metal Halide Perovskites

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Decades of CdTe and CdZnTe gamma‐ray spectrometer development define core design principles for room‐temperature semiconductor detectors. This Review highlights how metal halide perovskites rapidly assimilate these principles, particularly through defect and compositional engineering strategies that establish favorable spectroscopic conditions for ...

Digital Twin Reveals the Impact of Carbon Binder Domain Distribution on Performance of Lithium‐Ion Battery Cathodes

open access: yesSmall Structures
The rising demand for high‐performance lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) emphasizes the need for precise electrode design. The carbon binder domain (CBD) within electrodes, crucial for electron transport and structural integrity, can impede lithium‐ion ...

Enhancement in the power of microwaves by the interference with a cone-shaped reflector in an axial vircator

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
A virtual cathode oscillator (vircator) is a special type of oscillator capable of generating high-power microwaves. We studied an axially extracted vircator by installing a cone-shaped reflector in our pulsed power device, “Chundoong” and numerically ...

Unmanned Aerial Systems for Corrosion Detection: Multi‐Sensor Technologies, Challenges, and Opportunities for Next‐Generation Inspection

open access: yesQuality and Reliability Engineering International, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Corrosion remains a critical threat to the integrity and service life of infrastructure in industries such as oil, gas, construction, renewable energy, and transportation. Traditional inspection methods, being labor‐intensive, hazardous, and often subjective, fall short in addressing modern inspection demands.

Design of a Three‐Phase PWM Rectifier Based on Improved Whale Optimization Algorithm Optimized Fuzzy Control

open access: yesAdvanced Control for Applications, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2026.
Schematic diagram of the whale optimization algorithm (WOA)–optimized fuzzy proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller. The WOA is employed to dynamically tune the scaling factor expressions and fuzzy control parameters (a(e)a(e), a(ec)a(ec), βpβp, βiβi), as well as the initial PID gains (kp0kp0, ki0ki0), based on the error (ee) and its ...
