Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics of North America, 1997
A new method for colon examination, virtual colonoscopy, has been created by combining spiral computed tomography and virtual reality computer technology. If virtual colonoscopy proves equal to or superior to traditional colonoscopy in sensitivity and specificity for cancer screening, it would yield significant clinical and public health benefits ...

Imaging Decisions MRI, 2007
SummaryVirtual colonoscopy (VC) is an emerging technique for colorectal polyp detection in a normal‐risk screening population, in patients who have undergone incomplete colonoscopy, or patients who cannot undergo optical colonoscopy. Improvements in technology since VC's description over a decade ago have improved sensitivity for polyp detection.

Correlation Between Intraoperative Colonoscopy and Virtual Colonoscopy
Journal of the American College of Surgeons, 2008f s v s w a s t p c 6 63-year-old woman with a history of colon polyps and ersistently heme-positive stools underwent a colonoscopy at nother institution. The colonoscope could not traverse the plenic flexure of the colon because of sigmoid tortuosity. The atient then had CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy), hich revealed a fold in the cecum (A).

Physical priors in virtual colonoscopy
SPIE Proceedings, 2009Electronic colon cleansing (ECC) aims to remove the contrast agent from the CT abdominal images so that a virtual model of the colon can be constructed. Virtual colonoscopy requires either liquid or solid preparation of the colon before CT imaging. This paper has two parts to address ECC in both preparation methods.

VR in medicine: Virtual colonoscopy
Future Generation Computer Systems, 1998Colon/rectal cancer is the second most common cause of death, yet among the most preventable when detected in its early stages. The traditional diagnostic procedures cause tremendous discomfort and are deeply invasive. The motivation for this work is firstly to develop an alternative technique to visualise the inner mucosal surface of the colonic wall.

Virtual colonoscopy: clinical application
European Radiology Supplements, 2005Virtual colonoscopy (VC), also known as computed tomography Colonography (CTC), is a non-invasive test for the examination of the colon based on volumetric, thin-collimation CT acquisition of a cleansed and air-distended colon. The technique is easy, less labour-intensive than barium enema and conventional colonoscopy, and is inherently safer.

Diagnostic performance of virtual colonoscopy
Abdominal Imaging, 2002The most important diagnostic performance of virtual colonoscopy is the ability to detect colorectal polyps. However, its diagnostic value for evaluation of patients undergoing incomplete colonoscopy and the ability to detect unsuspected extracolonic findings are also important diagnostic features.
