Interpreting the Rock Paintings of Abri Faravel: laser and white-light scanning at 2,133m in the southern French Alps

open access: yesInternet Archaeology, 2016
The Abri Faravel, discovered in 2010 at 2,133m asl in the Parc National des Ecrins, Freissinières, Southern French Alps, is probably the most enigmatic high altitude site in the Alps.

On the Effect of Creep on Local Lattice Orientation in Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloy Microstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
During creep of a single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloy, the overall crystal orientation is observed to remain constant while the microstructure evolves. Despite the lack of macroscopic rotation, small (<1°) rotations are observed on the submicron size scale and are accommodated by counteracting rotations over the scale of several micrometers.

Spatially Modulated Morphotropic Phase Boundaries in a Compressively Strained Multiferroic Thin Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The coexisting rhombohedral‐like (R′, MA) and tetragonal‐like (T′, MC) monoclinic phases in compressively strained bismuth ferrite thin films exhibit exceptional piezoelectric and magnetic properties. While previous studies have largely focused on probing the morphotropic phase boundaries (MPBs) comprising ordered R′/T′ twins, their self ...
