On the benefit of collocation in virtual network embeddings

2012 IEEE 1st International Conference on Cloud Networking (CLOUDNET), 2012
This paper attends to the problem of optimizing the resource allocation in data centers or cloud networks. Our work is motivated by the observation that existing virtual network (VNet) embedding algorithms typically waste link resources by embedding communicating virtual nodes to remote locations in the substrate.

COVE: Co-operative Virtual Network Embedding for Network Virtualization

Journal of Network and Systems Management, 2017
Network virtualization provides a promising solution for next-generation network management by allowing multiple isolated and heterogeneous virtual networks to coexist and run on a shared substrate network. A long-standing challenge in network virtualization is how to effectively and efficiently map these virtual nodes and links of heterogeneous ...

SVNE: Survivable Virtual Network Embedding Algorithms for Network Virtualization

IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, 2013
Network virtualization can offer more flexibility and better manageability for the future Internet by allowing multiple heterogeneous virtual networks (VN) to coexist on a shared infrastructure provider (InP) network. A major challenge in this respect is the VN embedding problem that deals with the efficient mapping of virtual resources on InP network ...

Virtual network embedding in wireless multihop networks

Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Future Internet Technologies, 2011
Network virtualization has become one of the key technologies in the future Internet research. Compared to significant attention to network virtualization in wired networks, wireless virtualization has just started to gain attention recently, where most research has focused on implementation issues and/or single-hop cellular systems.

Virtual network embeddings in data center networks

2016 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2016
Network visualization enables coexistence of multiple virtual networks on a shared infrastructure without requiring unified protocols, applications, and control and management planes. Recent approaches such as Software Defined Networking have enabled cloud service providers to offer virtualized network services that require embedding virtual network ...

Robust virtual network embedding for mobile networks

2015 IEEE 26th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), 2015
Network virtualization which will, inter alia, allow for dynamic network sharing, has turned into one of the most prominent solutions that can efficiently deal with the upcoming increase of data demand in mobile networks. In order to allow multiple virtual network operators to share the same substrate infrastructure, the need for the development of ...

Rethinking Virtual Network Embedding in Reconfigurable Networks

2018 15th Annual IEEE International Conference on Sensing, Communication, and Networking (SECON), 2018
The virtual network embedding (VNE) problem of mapping virtual network (VN) requests to a substrate network is a key component of network virtualization in datacenters. In a bid to improve datacenter network's performance and cost, there has been recent interest in "reconfigurable" network architectures, wherein the network topology can be changed at ...

A framework for virtual network embedding in wireless networks

Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Future Internet Technologies, 2009
In this paper, we formulate the virtual network embedding problem in wireless networks and suggest a framework to approach the problem. Also, we show an application of our problem modeling framework with ORBIT which is one of famous wireless test-bed networks.

Connectivity-aware virtual network embedding

2016 IFIP Networking Conference (IFIP Networking) and Workshops, 2016
The problem of ensuring virtual network (VN) connectivity in presence of multiple link failures in the substrate network (SN) is not well investigated in Network Virtualization (NV) literature. We name this problem as Connectivity-aware Virtual Network Embedding (CoViNE).

Distributed and scalable embedding of virtual networks

Journal of Network and Computer Applications, 2015
Network virtualization is widely regarded as a key technology for the Future Internet, enabling the deployment of new network protocols without changing dissimilar hardware devices. This leads to the problem of mapping virtual demands to physical resources, known as Virtual Network Embedding (VNE).
