We found that plant species identity and soil properties, especially soil phosphorus availability, independently structured arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) community composition in tropical forests across central Panama. We also found that soil nutrient availability may mediate the interaction networks between plants and AMF. ABSTRACT Plant species

We describe the construction and the properties of the SWIRE-SDSS database, a preliminary derivation of the Far-Infrared Local Luminosity Functions at 24/70/160 micron based on such a database and ways in which VO tools will allow to refine and extend such work.

Using Virtual Observatory techniques to search for Adaptive Optics suitable AGN
Until recently, it has been possible only for nearby galaxies to study the scaling relations between central black hole and host galaxy in detail. Because of the small number densities at low redshift, (luminous) AGN are underrepresented in such detailed

Searching for unknown counterparts in X-ray binary systems using Virtual Observatory tools
In the framework of an ongoing programme, we have developed strategies to discover and characterize optical/infrared unknown counterparts to X-ray binary systems using the standard tools of the Virtual Observatory. First, we have selected some potential candidates from different X-ray catalogues.

Multidimensional indexing tools for the virtual observatory
Astronomische Nachrichten, 2007AbstractThe last decade has seen a dramatic change in the way astronomy is carried out. The dawn of the the new microelectronic devices, like CCDs has dramatically extended the amount of observed data. Large, in some cases all sky surveys emerged in almost all the wavelength ranges of the observable spectrum of electromagnetic waves.

A Galactic Model as a Useful Tool for Virtual Observatories
2006Many observational data will be available through Virtual Observatories, but at some wavelengths and in some directions, no data yet exist. Concerning star counts, photometry and classifications, galactic models can be usefully included in VO for statistical inputs.

Investigation of radio sources with the virtual observatory tools: Results and problems
Astronomische Nachrichten, 2013AbstractRadio sources of the RCR catalogue, obtained from observational data of the “Cold” experiment, have been identified, almost completely, with optical objects. For this purpose, we used optical, infrared, and radio sky surveys as well as archive data from the VLA (NRAO) and the 6‐m telescope (SAO).

Federation and Fusion of Astronomical Information: Standards and Tools for the Virtual Observatories
2006We present a review of the current organization of astronomical archives and data centers in terms of data federation. We point the challenges faced, in the VO context, for developing the necessary standards and tools to make data federation and data fusion possible at a general level, covering all potential VO resources.
