Three-dimensional modeling for virtual relic restoration

IEEE Multimedia, 2000
Relics change in quality when excavated from ruins and exposed to air and/or sunlight. This is one reason why we developed a new computer-based method to record and preserve archaeological properties. We propose a new method of 3D modeling of a relic shard that achieves sufficient accuracy and efficiency.

Virtual backup network for broadband network restoration

ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Record. Affiliated with SUPERCOMM'98 (Cat. No.98CH36220), 2002
Survivability is one of the important issues in broadband networks, since even a single network element failure may cause a serious amount of data loss. There have been two main approaches for connection restoration: dynamic approach and backup approach.

Dynamic rerouting for ATM virtual path restoration

GLOBECOM 97. IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference. Conference Record, 2002
Dynamic restoration for ATM virtual path is an important network management function for survivable ATM networks. In the multiple-layer survivability architecture, the dynamic restoration can be used for VPs that require a lower grade of reliability in the sense that the corresponding backup VP may not be guaranteed.

Restorative Effects of Exercise in Virtual Environments

Proceedings of the 9th Augmented Human International Conference, 2018
Development of virtual reality devices cannot consider effects of exercise experiences by virtual environments. In this paper, we compared exercise experience by 3 environments (Indoor, Virtual urban, Virtual nature), focusing on restorative effects. We conducted the experiment that rode a bicycle while watching 360 degrees video in each environment ...

Virtual prototyping of adhesively restored, endodontically treated molars

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2010
Teeth and dental restorations are difficult to model because of their complex anatomical shape and layered structure. The purpose of this investigation was to describe the use of an efficient virtual prototyping method for the comparison of bonded porcelain and composite resin onlays to restore endodontically treated molars. An intact mandibular molar ...

Virtual Restoration of Ancient Manuscripts

2007
Ancient manuscripts restoration is a very challenging field that requires considerable expertise. Since most of the restoration procedures (e.g. chemical cleaning of dirt layers) are irreversible, a huge amount of planning is required before each operation, especially when the work of art that is being restored is of great historical and/or artistic ...
