ViSIAr – A virtual sensor integration architecture [PDF]

open access: yesRobotica, 1999
Virtual sensors (software abstractions to support programming of sensor use) have been shown to have software-engineering benefits. A sensor integration system is required to support them. We examine the general requirements of such systems and consider the important design requirements.

Innovative Actuator Fault Identification Based on Back Electromotive Force Reconstruction

open access: yesActuators, 2020
The ever increasing adoption of electrical power as secondary form of on-board power is leading to an increase in the usage of electromechanical actuators (EMAs).

Self-organising Sensor networks. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Sensor Networks consist of a large number of low-cost low-power devices, each with sufficient hardware to monitor one or more variables and send and receive the readings for these variables to other devices.

A Dynamic Size Distributed Program Image Cache for Wireless Sensor Networks

open access: yes, 2009
Reprogramming node software over-the-air is an essential requirement in many wireless sensor network applications due to the inaccessibility of the deployed sensor nodes.

Energy-efficient data acquisition for accurate signal estimation in wireless sensor networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Long-term monitoring of an environment is a fundamental requirement for most wireless sensor networks. Owing to the fact that the sensor nodes have limited energy budget, prolonging their lifetime is essential in order to permit long-term monitoring ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Internet of things and virtual sensors for electromobility [PDF]

open access: yesInternet Technology Letters, 2018
In the era of the Internet of things, billion of smart objects are going to be connected, with the needs of producing and storing big amount of data. In this context, there are many drawbacks to overcome related to data storage, processing power and connection capabilities of physical devices. This paper focuses on the specification of virtual sensors (

A Sensor-based Interaction for Ubiquitous Virtual Reality Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper, we propose a sensor-based interaction for ubiquitous virtual reality (U-VR) systems that users are able to interact implicitly or explicitly with through a sensor.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,
