Aristotle and Aquinas on the Virtue of Money as a Preservative of Justice in Business Affairs and States

open access: yesStudia Gilsoniana, 2019
While Aristotle’s and St. Thomas’s teachings about economics are often ridiculed today, this article argues that actually what they had to say about this issue, especially about the nature of sound currency, backed up by force of law, is quite profound ...

Buddhism, Beauty, and Virtue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The chapter challenges hyperbolic claims about the centrality of appreciation of beauty to Buddhism. Within the texts, attitudes are more mixed, except for a form of 'inner beauty' - the beauty found in the expression of virtues or wisdom in forms of ...

Enhanced Oxidation and Thermal Shock Resistance of N‐type Mg2Si0.89(Sn0.1,Sb0.01) Thermoelectric Material via Cr0.9Si0.1 Coating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cr0.9Si0.1 protective coatings are developed to enhance the thermal‐shock and oxidation resistance of Mg2Si0.89(Sn0.1,Sb0.01) thermoelectric (TE) materials. The coating forms a dense and adherent barrier that suppresses oxygen diffusion and mitigates mechanical degradation during cyclic oxidation, demonstrating its potential to improve the long‐term ...

Thermoelectric Modules Incorporating MgAgSb and Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 Synthesized Using a Melting Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable synthesis method for a thermoelectric material of MgAgSb is established. A thermoelectric power module of MgAgSb/Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 is fabricated, showing the conversion efficiency of 7.4% at ΔT = 315 K. The performance is comparable to conventional Bi2Te3 modules when they are operated with an air‐cooled heat exchanger.

Educating through Exemplars: Alternative Paths to Virtue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper confronts Zagzebski’s exemplarism with the intertwined debates over the conditions of exemplarity and the unity-disunity of the virtues, to show the advantages of a pluralistic exemplar-based approach to moral education (PEBAME).

Unique Performance Considerations for Printable Organic Semiconductor and Perovskite Radiation Detectors: Toward Consensus on Best Practice Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...

Jacques Demy’s Les Parapluies de Cherbourg: A National Allegory of the French-Algerian War [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
If the French-Algerian War remained for decades a \u27war without a name\u27, as Bertrand Tavernier and Patrick Rotman suggested in their so-titled 1992 documentary, for many years it was also considered to be a war without a cinema, both in France and ...

Organic Electrochemical Transistor Channel Materials: Copolymerization Versus Physical Mixing of Glycolated and Alkoxylated Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work discusses the use of blended channel materials in OECTs. It explores how mixing glycolated and alkoxylated polymers in various ratios offers a simpler and more efficient route to tuning OECT properties. The performance of the polymer blends is compared to the corresponding copolymers, demonstrating similar OECT characteristics, swelling ...

Elevated Virtue?

open access: yesJournal of Moral Theology, 2019
Anyone who both accepts the Aristotelian account of virtue and holds that God bestows virtues along with the gift of sanctifying grace must offer some account of how Aristotelian natural virtues are related to the supernatural virtues bestowed by God ...
