Evolution of Potato virus X

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2022
Potato virus X (PVX) is the type potexvirus of economic significance. The pathogen is distributed worldwide, threatening solanaceous plants in particular. Based on the coat protein (CP) gene, PVX isolates are classified into two major genotypes (I and II).

Translating virus evolution into epidemiology

Cell Host & Microbe, 2022
6 years ago, I published a Cell Host and Microbe paper that described randomization of virus genetic populations during mosquito infection. From within the evolutionary chaos, however, there is an order that can reveal a virus' past. Using these insights, I forged a career harnessing virus evolution to understand epidemiological patterns.

Virus Evolution on Fitness Landscapes

2023
The landscape paradigm is revisited in the light of evolution in simple systems. A brief overview of different classes of fitness landscapes is followed by a more detailed discussion of the RNA model, which is currently the only evolutionary model that allows for a comprehensive molecular analysis of a fitness landscape.

Evolution of rice stripe virus

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2017
Rice stripe virus (RSV) is an insect-borne tenuivirus of economical significance. It is endemic to the rice-growing regions of East Asia and exhibits more genetic diversity in Yunnan Province of China. To gain more insights into the molecular epidemiology and evolution of RSV, recombination analyses were conducted and potential events were detected in ...

Plant RNA virus evolution

Current Opinion in Microbiology, 2003
RNA viruses are the most common viruses of plants, and the evolution of these viruses has been studied both experimentally and phylogenetically. The basic molecular mechanisms for plant virus evolution are similar to those of other viruses, with some notable exceptions. Recent advances include new insights into the origins of plant viruses, analyses of

Evolution of infectious salmon anaemia virus (ISA virus)

Archives of Virology, 2012
Infectious salmon anaemia virus, ISA virus (genus Isavirus, family Orthomyxoviridae), emerged in Norwegian salmon culture in the mid-80s. The genome consists of eight segments coding for at least 10 proteins. ISA viruses show many of similarities to influenza A viruses but differ in many important aspects such as the number of hosts, the host ...
