Transcriptional Analysis of the Adeno-Associated Virus Integration Site [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2009
ABSTRACTThe nonpathogenic human adeno-associated virus type 2 (AAV-2) has adopted a unique mechanism to site-specifically integrate its genome into the humanMBS85gene, which is embedded inAAVS1on chromosome 19. The fact that AAV has evolved to integrate into this ubiquitously transcribed region and that the chromosomal motifs required for integration ...

A Touch of Sleep: Biophysical Model of Contact-mediated Dormancy of Archaea by Viruses [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
The canonical view of the interactions between viruses and their microbial hosts presumes that changes in host and virus fate require the initiation of infection of a host by a virus. That is, first virus particles diffuse randomly outside of host cells, then the virus genome enters the target host cell, and only then do intracellular dynamics and ...

Network analysis and disease subnets for the SARS-CoV-2/Human interactome [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Motivation: With the aim to amplify and make sense of interactions of virus-human proteins in the case of SARS-CoV-2, we performed a structural analysis of the network of protein interactions obtained from the integration of three sources: 1) proteins of virus SARS-CoV-2, 2)physical interactions between SARS-CoV-2 and human proteins, 3) known ...

Mass production of volume phase holographic gratings for the VIRUS spectrograph array [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Visible Integral-field Replicable Unit Spectrograph (VIRUS) is a baseline array of 150 copies of a simple, fiber-fed integral field spectrograph that will be deployed on the Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET). VIRUS is the first optical astronomical instrument to be replicated on an industrial scale, and represents a relatively inexpensive solution for ...

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Nucleolar Localization of HIV-1 Rev Is Required, Yet Insufficient for Production of Infectious Viral Particles. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Combination antiretroviral therapy fails in complete suppression of HIV-1 due to drug resistance and persistent latency. Novel therapeutic intervention requires knowledge of intracellular pathways responsible for viral replication, specifically those ...

Ensemble Forecasting of the Zika Space-TimeSpread with Topological Data Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmetrics, 2020, 2020
As per the records of theWorld Health Organization, the first formally reported incidence of Zika virus occurred in Brazil in May 2015. The disease then rapidly spread to other countries in Americas and East Asia, affecting more than 1,000,000 people. Zika virus is primarily transmitted through bites of infected mosquitoes of the species Aedes (Aedes ...

Tumor clusters with divergent inflammation and human retroelement expression determine the clinical outcome of patients with serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of treatment‐naïve high‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) and control tissues for ERVs, LINE‐1 (L1), inflammation, and immune checkpoints identified five clusters with diverse patient recurrence‐free survivals. An inflammation score was calculated and correlated with retroelement expression, where one novel cluster (Triple‐I) with high ...

Primary seronegative but molecularly evident hepadnaviral infection engages liver and induces hepatocarcinoma in the woodchuck model of hepatitis B. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2014
Hepadnavirus at very low doses establishes in woodchucks asymptomatic, serologically undetectable but molecularly evident persistent infection. This primary occult infection (POI) preferentially engages the immune system and initiates virus-specific T ...

Natural resistance of the diploid Musa balbisiana Pisang Klutuk Wulung (PKW) to banana streak virus is probably driven by transcriptional gene silencing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The genome of banana (Musa sp.) harbours multiple integrations of Banana streak virus (eBSV), whereas this badnavirus does not require integration for the replication of its ds DNA genome.
