Towards an integrative view of virus phenotypes

Nature Reviews Microbiology, 2021
Understanding how phenotypes emerge from genotypes is a foundational goal in biology. As challenging as this task is when considering cellular life, it is further complicated in the case of viruses. During replication, a virus as a discrete entity (the virion) disappears and manifests itself as a metabolic amalgam between the virus and the host (the ...

Integrated reticuloendotheliosis virus genomic sequences in fowlpox virus.

CABI Reviews, 2008
Abstract Fowlpox is a common viral disease in domestic poultry, with a worldwide distribution. The negative impacts of the disease are reduction in egg production and retarded growth in younger birds. Vaccination with live vaccines has long been used for the control of the disease in the poultry industry and economic losses have been ...

The integrated genome of murine leukemia virus

Cell, 1978
The Southern gel filter transfer technique has been used to characterize the integrated genome of Moloney murine leukemia virus (M-MuLV) and the genomes of the endogenous viruses of the mouse. Study of 10 clones of rat cell independently infected by M-MuLV indicates a minimum of 15 integration sites into which the M-MuLV provirus can be inserted.

Integrated Risk of Virus Outbreaks

2020
The initial outbreak of Corona Virus Disease in 2019 (COVID-19) in Wuhan, China, has led to its spread in almost all countries of the World. In an attempt to slow down the virus’ quick spread, the government of major nations has enforced shutdown of its various borders, travel restriction, lockdowns, and recommend quarantine and social distancing.

Virus Inactivation Mechanisms: Impact of Disinfectants on Virus Function and Structural Integrity

Environmental Science & Technology, 2012
Oxidative processes are often harnessed as tools for pathogen disinfection. Although the pathways responsible for bacterial inactivation with various biocides are fairly well understood, virus inactivation mechanisms are often contradictory or equivocal.

Integration of Moloney leukaemia virus into the germ line of mice: correlation between site of integration and virus activation

Nature, 1980
Endogenous avian and murine C-type viruses are genetic elements which are transmitted at several distinct chromosomal loci. Different patterns of virus activation have been observed in a variety of different mouse strains. However, because there are multiple copies of closely related endogenous viruses in every mouse strain, the genetic basis of the ...

Polydnavirus genome: integrated vs. free virus

Journal of Insect Physiology, 2003
Polydnaviruses are unique because of their obligatory association with thousands of parasitoid wasp species from the braconid and ichneumonid families of hymenopterans. PDVs are injected into the parasitized hosts and are essential for parasitism success.
