We study wall and center migration of viscoelastic droplets in a Poiseuille flow of viscoelastic medium (PVP) at low Reynolds numbers (Re ≪ 1) and propose the existence of a new lift force whose origin lies in the viscoelasticity of the droplet phase.

Theoretical simulation of transient viscoelastic flows in a viscoelastic system
Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 1985The flow of an Oldroyd fluid exposed to a sudden arbitrary time-dependent pressure is studied in a circular tube prolonged by a viscoelastic enclosure. The momentum equations are solved using a finite difference scheme. The results presented here reveal the influence of different parameters upon the transient flow.

Journal of Applied Physics, 1957A hydrodynamic theory for the flow of a viscoelastic fluid is formulated and applied. The viscoelasticity is specified in terms of the conventional and well-known relaxation and retardation spectra. Time dependent recoverable strains are defined with respect to convected rotating coordinate axes.

Journal of Colloid Science, 1951Abstract Theoretical equations are developed for secondary stresses in a shearing viscoelastic fluid. The theory assumes that the elastic stresses developed by the continuous shear also relax continuously in accordance with Maxwell's relaxation theory of viscosity.
