A Backwards-Tracking Lagrangian-Eulerian Method for Viscoelastic Two-Fluid Flows
A new Lagrangian–Eulerian method for the simulation of viscoelastic free surface flow is proposed. The approach is developed from a method in which the constitutive equation for viscoelastic stress is solved at Lagrangian nodes, which are convected by ...

Impedance‐based viscoelastic flow cytometry [PDF]
AbstractElastic nature of the viscoelastic fluids induces lateral migration of particles into a single streamline and can be used by microfluidic based flow cytometry devices. In this study, we investigated focusing efficiency of polyethylene oxide based viscoelastic solutions at varying ionic concentration to demonstrate their use in impedimetric ...

Viscoelastic Pipe Flow is Linearly Unstable [PDF]
Newtonian pipe flow is known to be linearly stable at all Reynolds numbers. We report, for the first time, a linear instability of pressure driven pipe flow of a viscoelastic fluid, obeying the Oldroyd-B constitutive equation commonly used to model dilute polymer solutions.

The cross-slot geometry plays an important role in the study of nonlinear effects of viscoelastic fluids. The flow of viscoelastic fluid in a micro cross-slot with a high channel aspect ratio (AR, the ratio of channel depth to width) can be divided into ...

Flow Direction-Dependent Elastic Instability in a Symmetry-Breaking Microchannel
This paper reports flow direction-dependent elastic instability in a symmetry-breaking microchannel. The microchannel consisted of a square chamber and a nozzle structure. A viscoelastic polyacrylamide solution was used for the instability demonstration.

Quasistatic Nonlinear Viscoelasticity and Gradient Flows [PDF]
We consider the equation of motion for one-dimensional nonlinear viscoelasticity of strain-rate type under the assumption that the stored-energy function is $λ$-convex, which allows for solid phase transformations. We formulate this problem as a gradient flow, leading to existence and uniqueness of solutions.

Numerical Simulation of Dynamic Phenomena of Unsteady Friction and Viscoelastic Effects in Pipeline under the Transient Flow [PDF]
Plastic pipes are widely used in pressurized water systems. The analysis of transient flow and estimation of maximum and minimum pressure wave propagation in pipeline and pipe networks is required for design and practice of piping systems, pumping ...
