Discrepancies Between Micro Versus Macroscale Viscoelastic Properties in a Microplastic‐Tissue Composite Model

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the discrepancies between bulk mechanics and spatial mapping in a tissue‐mimetic hydrogel model. Microplastic particles create localized stiff mechanical microenvironments that are detectable by cellular‐scale nanoindentation but leave bulk properties unchanged as measured by rheology.

Determination of Viscoelastic Property in Polyethylene Crystallization Using a Quartz Crystal Resonator

open access: yesSensors, 2009
A new generalized relationship between the viscoelastic properties of an overlayer placed on the electrode interface of a quartz crystal resonator and its resonant characteristic is developed from the mechanics of the quartz movement. The relationship is

Sedimentation of Two Side-by-Side Heavy Particles of Different Density in a Shear-Thinning Fluid with Viscoelastic Properties

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Particle sedimentation has widely existed in nature and engineering fields, and most carrier fluids are non-Newtonian. Recently, the manipulation of a settling particle in liquid has been a topic of high interest to those involved in engineered processes

Investigating the stability of viscoelastic stagnation flows in T-shaped microchannels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate the stability of steady planar stagnation flows of a dilute polyethylene oxide (PEO) solution using T-shaped microchannels. The precise flow rate control and well-defined geometries achievable with microfluidic fabrication technologies ...

A viscoelastic–stochastic model of the effects of cytoskeleton remodelling on cell adhesion [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2016
Cells can adapt their mechanical properties through cytoskeleton remodelling in response to external stimuli when the cells adhere to the extracellular matrix (ECM).
