Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers as Soft Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) can be actuated via electromechanical, electrochemical, or electrothermal effects. a) Electromechanical effects include Maxwell stress, electrostriction, and the electroclinic effect. b) Electrochemical effects arise from electrode redox reactions.

Effect of Temperature on the Viscoelastic Properties of Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Polypropylene Composites

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2021
Finite element method (FEM) is used to analyze the mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites. Firstly, polypropylene is assumed as a viscoelastic material, while carbon nanotubes are assumed as linear ...

Endothelial Cells Angiogenesis in Sulfated Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) Hydrogels Enhanced by Bioactive Glass‐Released Ions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanically tunable hydrogel composed of gelatin, chondroitin sulfate and laminin promotes angiogenesis in vitro without the supplement of growth factors. Endothelial cells morphogenesis was further enhanced by medium conditioned with bioactive glass 58S‐released ions (Ca and Si), thus offering a promising strategy to vascularize 3D tissue ...

Study on Relaxation Damage Properties of High Viscosity Asphalt Sand under Uniaxial Compression

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
Laboratory investigations of relaxation damage properties of high viscosity asphalt sand (HVAS) by uniaxial compression tests and modified generalized Maxwell model (GMM) to simulate viscoelastic characteristics coupling damage were carried out. A series

Interconnected Porous Hydrogels with Tunable Anisotropy Through Aqueous Emulsion Bioprinting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bioprintable microporous bioink is developed using an aqueous two‐phase system (ATPS) composed of extracellular matrix (ECM) mimetic biopolymers. The ATPS bioink enables the fabrication of interconnected porous architectures with up to 70% porosity, supporting long‐term cell viability and 3D cell alignment, enabling a simultaneous generation of ...

Viscoelastic aspects of glass relaxation models [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2019
We take advantage of the approximation of the stretched exponential function with a general Prony series in glass relaxation to give some results about the spectral analysis for the equation of viscoelasticity. Moreover, in the case of the Burgers model we carry out a complete investigation that leads to the representation of the solution.

Viscoelasticity‐Induced Controllable Periodic Meso‐Textures of Liquid Crystal Polymers in Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Viscoelasticity‐driven instabilities are harnessed to create tunable, periodic textures in 3D‐printed liquid crystalline polymers. This study illustrates how processing parameters control these spontaneous meso‐scale patterns. These unique structural architectures unlock new possibilities for functional devices, ranging from photonic components to ...

Finite Element Analysis for Linear Viscoelastic Materials Considering Time-Dependent Poisson’s Ratio: Variable Stiffness Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences
For linear viscoelastic materials, this paper proposes a finite element analysis method based on an integral constitutive relationship that can simultaneously consider the relaxation behavior of the elastic modulus and the creep Poisson’s ratio. Firstly,
